Gwenpool Strikes Back #1 is perfect for fans who have been lamenting her series loss. And it is especially soothing for those lamenting her loss once again, with the cancellation of West Coast Avengers. Sure, we'll have to deal with that loss all over again when the series concludes. But perhaps we'll get the ending we've been hoping for, or an open-ended opportunity to see her again. Read Full Review

Letterer Joe Caramagna deserves a special mention for his work here as well; this is a dense script that undoubtedly took a long while to put on the page. I have to imagine Gwenpool is a character any letterer would kill to work on because of how inherently subjective and expressive she is! Read Full Review

This wild first issue has such a method to its madness that I'm almost certain the questions will all be answered as the series unfolds. Even if they aren't, these creators are doing such a good job with Gwenpool - so authentic, so transgressive, so fun - that I already know I won't regret climbing aboard this ride. And you won't regret it, either. Read Full Review

Since her first adventure in The Unbelievable Gwenpool #0 (originally Howard the Duck volume 6 #1) Gwen has appeared on and off, as a member of the West Coast Avengers (until their book was canceled), again in Spider-Man: Deadpool #50, and she even fought in the War of the Realms. After all of her adventures, it's great to see Gwenpool in her own solo series, even if it's only five issues. This is a great place for new fans to get started with Gwenpool and for existing fans to get more Gwen content. Read Full Review

The comic had me intrigued with the opening discussion of what makes the character stands out. It's the later visuals that have me wanting to see more of this series. I wasn't much of a fan of Gwenpool before but I'm definitely intrigued now. Read Full Review

From dabbing to memes, the heroine rightly calls herself a queen of cringe culture, but it somehow works with this debut's issue as Gwen acts against a clean-cut Peter Parker. And with a new power in tow, this series promises to be one of Marvel's most outlandish on shelves these days. Read Full Review

Gwenpool Strikes Back (2019-) #1 takes everyone's favorite fourth wall breaker to some familiar ground, trying to stay relevant in the Marvel Universe by gaining super powers. The art is great, and Leah Williams has a good handle on the character. The story is fun, but not anything entirely new. Read Full Review

Overall, I’m interested to see where Gwenpool Strikes Back will take Gwen’s narrative as she moves through these untapped Marvel stories, but I hope there are some stronger character beats for the rest of this limited series. The balance between heart and comedy will make or break this title. As this issue spells out, it will also dictate the future of the character and her “existence” in the 616. Read Full Review

Art work is solid and fairly trippy. Although slightly confusing, this is truly a fun read. If you don't enjoy commentary, this isn't the comic for you. But Gwenpool is a culturally aware, no filter, comedy machine. The story is a bit wonky right now, but I can see a fun and interesting short arc incoming. Don't cancel Gwen!

Gwenpool takes quite a looong time providing the 'origin and other tales' with her monologue session. Not a complaint, trust me when I say I'm starting to like her, but... Are some of the details really necessary? This is my first time reading Gwenpool, to be honest she is like a mashup of Harley Quinn, Batgirl and Mxyzptlk combined. I know I know, coming from a DC fan this may seem like a rambling, don't get me wrong. Although she has a striking likeness to a certain character, she wants readers to think otherwise (I'm not even talking about Gwen Stacy), sooo I didn't really get that part. Did she want to convey she is her own person or was it some kind of a joke that I'm too gullible to understand? Nevertheless, I really loved seein more

I like the general direction of the plot, but both Gwen and her author are a little too good at being obnoxious. And the stuff that looks like SURELY it will come back around to mean something later on -- won't. At least the art's easy on the eyes.

Well, this was... Worse than I hoped (but probably nothing could live up to the Unbelievable Gwenpool), but better than I expected (seriously, to me it had the most off-putting solicit text ever). What is it like? Without spoilers? Well, if you can imagine the manic and somewhat edgy Howard the Duck backup story crossed with the high meta of the late parts of the Unbelievable Gwenpool you'll probably have a good approximation. This series will really live or die on finding some kind of a balance, because this for 5 issues would be WAY too much.
