Some comic series have issues that can stand on their own and be a decent story in and of themselves… some you really need to have at least a few of the other issues to get a good hold on what's going on… or to really enjoy the story that is being lain out. I feel this fits in the latter of those two categories. It's fine as a part of a story but I don't think this single issue is really enough to get into the meat of all that is going on. That isn't a bad thing… it just means that you will be left eagerly awaiting the next issue… which given how this one ends, should be quite a ride! If you've been following the series I'd say it's a no brainer… you will want this in your collection… if you haven't… maybe pick it up… or wait for a collection of the entire story. Read Full Review

Guardians of the Galaxy #9 suffers a tad from decompression, but at the same time that's an almost natural side effect of being the third chapter in a six-part story. But it's still a solid read; anyone looking to check out the Guardians done right after a hit-or-miss run by the book's previous author would do well to check this out! Read Full Review

Prelude: While it's wrapping up soon to make way for Ewing, Cates still needs to finish this arc of GotG. Is he up for the task? The Good: Cliffhanger is interesting, that's for sure. I enjoyed the whole "Peter vs. the World" dynamic in the issue. While they are misguided, I do like the Universal Church of Truth's justification here. The Bad: Look, if you have to explicitly state who the cliffhanger is to ensure audiences aren't confused on who it is or why it's important, then you haven't written it well.... What do you mean I usually don't care for this exact scenario when reading Justice League? Really? Oh well, it's here anyway but no points lost then. You happy with that? Solicits are here for the new Guardians of the Galaxy series under Ewing and guess who I spot on the cover? Rocket. Guess this whole "Death of Rocket Raccoon" stuff doesn't take. Also, a lot of what makes Guardians great are the characters and there isn't much here. Conclusion: It's a solid story that is ruined slightly by Ewing's approaching time on the book. Having Peter as the sole survivor does bring in some highlights but ultimately harms the issue moreso than help it. more

I like this series but I'm still not 100% in. I might bail on this soon if that last page reveal goes as I expect it to go. Too bad because the last issue was so good.
