Having chased the villain out of 1975, Kamala finds herself pushed forward about a half a decade for the next stop in the series: the Dark Phoenix Saga. That should be an interesting advancement. In theory it might be fun to see this series continue through the subsequent major moments like The Mutant Massacre and The Fall of the Mutants. Giant-Size X-Men #1 is exactly the mess you would expect from Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, but more. Kamala Khan travels through time without rhyme or reason, instantly joins the X-Men without anyone asking why, and charges off to stop Legion from attacking Krakoa. And this is the moment Marvel picks to unveil Kamala's mutant powers. It's one thing to suspect this comic would be bad. It's another to realize you were wrong. It's worse. Read Full Review

I thought this issue was a lot of fun. I like most things Kamala is involved in because she's a fantastic character. Seeing her interact with character in the past was entertaining. I'm glad the continuity of her friendship with young cyclops from champions was remembered. My biggest complaint was that it was a little slow, but most comics are these days. It's nothing unique to this issue. It's a larger issue I have with the industry. The art was just okay, didn't suck but nothing special. Minor issues really. All in all, I'm excited to see where it goes!

I came into this book expecting a mess. It’s not a new masterpiece by any means, but it’s a fun time. Kamala is just a fan dropped into a legendary moment in X-men history. It doesn’t desecrate the original story or anything. I get that Kamala becoming a mutant was an editorial mess but atleast she’s a fun character unlike some other editorial abominations. *cough* Paul *cough*.

The experiment of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzig writing comic books needs to come to an end. There is no rhyme or reason to this nor is there any demand for it. This isn't fun and it doesn't help to endear Kamala Khan to a fan base that already hates the idea of her being a mutant. This celebrates nothing. Save your money and time.

Not really. Maybe you should have gone out of your way and thought about it a little. No big deal. Thinking isn't for everyone champ. Your good scores for terrible comics alone is evidence of that. Now if you don't mind I'll just hit that block button annnnnnd BOOM. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Adam Kubert and Sara Pichelli make Giant-Size X-Men 1 look good, but make no mistake: this issue continues the ongoing desecration of the corpse that once was one of the most beloved, inspiring and exciting comic franchises of our times. In part 1 we learn why Kamala Khan - a character nobody asked to be turned into a mutant in the first place - is the best, most intelligent and most important mutant of them all. In part 2 we learn that Prof. Xavier, a white cis male, has always been scum - by adding a new character and origin to the story of the original Giant-Size X-Men. I doubt that any of this is what X-Men fans wanted. The fact that Marvel is going for that crap is interesting though. I can't help but wonder what they are tr ying to achieve with all these retcons and subversions. Do they want to change X-Men continuity for good by inserting Ms.Marvel into everything? Or is this just a self-contained story and everything will be as it always was after it's wrapped up? In which case I'd ask myself why I should care about these one-shots at all? Whether it's one or the other, Giant-Size X-Men 1 (2025) is disrespectful to the original and tries to further shove a character down our throat that has failed to stand on her own and that for some reason has now become the vehicle for Marvel's political agenda. And this, perhaps, is the answer to the mystery why we get comics like "Giant-Turd X-Men". more

I really don't. I prefer my comics to be non-political. I have been an X-Men fan for almost forty years though, so I do have a good idea what older fans want. If you enjoy this modern crap for some reason, fine. Have your opinion, as I have mine.

any critic giving this issue a 5/10 or above has lost all credibility. solid 4 at best and that is being generous. nobody asked for this and no one is demanding more. Marvel needs to start appreciating their fans instead of destroying everything they enjoy.
