Fantastic Four #7

I really enjoyed this issue. The Thing has long been my favorite member of the Fantastic Four, so I will always appreciate a story that shows us a little more about him. The fact this issue lets us see him as a husband, father, and friend gives us the best parts of Ben Grimm even as we brace for the impact of Galactus meeting with Sue Storm. Read Full Review

A call to action from Galactus causes a look at how the team deals with a void in their absence. North's writing reminds readers of why this team has earned the reputation it has. North crafts a fun, funny and entertaining story in this issue. I love that the team is thinking beyond their mission and how the family elements of the story are used in the narrative. I like seeing the return of some characters as well as the growing friendship between Sue and Felicia. This was a great buildup to the next part of this arc and I look forward to seeing what happens with the Fantastic Four in space. Read Full Review

Fantastic Four #7 is a playful, heartfelt issue. Though lacking the science basis that forms the backbone of almost every issue in the series, the focus on the kids makes for an offbeat story with no shortage of humor. Its hard not to read this one with a constant smile. Read Full Review

Plot The Fantastic Four prepare to travel to Galactus with Sue, as it seems the cosmic being needs their help. It takes Reed some time to create a ship fast enough to reach that part of the galaxy. Alicia, Franklin, Nicky, and Jo stay behind on Earth, calling themselves the Fantastic Four Juniors. Reed fears for his children's lives and creates teleportation bracelets, giving them to Wolverine, Black Cat, Wyatt Wingfoot, and Captain Marvel so they can come to their aid. Mad Thinker deciphers Galactus's message and attacks the Fantastic Four Juniors, anticipating the arrival of Wolverine, Black Cat, Wyatt Wingfoot, and Captain Marvel. However, he hadn't counted on the other team of help recruited by Ben Grim. This exciting and acti on-packed installment sets the stage for a powerful revelation about Sue Storm that will shake the Marvel Universe. Art Humberto Ramos showcases his artistic skills, elevating the action sequences with his distinctive style and recreating each era in a completely different way. I almost liked this issue, but despite a few nice moments in the first half that felt like I'm actually reading the Fantastic Four, the train of writing derails completely towards the end of the issue. And then it just ends... somewhere. Of course, I also have to translate every panel into art that's actually good in my mind to make this even work, since it's Humberto Ramos and his fricking Picasso faces.
