Doctor Doom is a series with rich potential for good or evil. With this debut issue, it looks to be off to a pleasantly ambiguous start, leaving the reader with questions, concerns, and a desire to know more. I can't wait for the next issue. Read Full Review

Final Thoughts:This is a very thought-provoking issue, in a good way! We've got a major villain, a big disaster, and a major catastrophe that sets Doom up as their perpetrator. Throw in Doom's inner battle with himself, and we've got an awesome number one issue. I can't wait to see how this unfolds! Read Full Review

Well, that's one way to knock the big guy off of his throne! It's not often that you will see a king like Doom knocked down a peg like this, and you have to love it because that is never without some big plan that is set into motion that he can't power his way out of. Doctor Doom #1 was thrilling, personal, and still found room to be action-packed. As I said above, the book is worth it for the fresh experience that isn't Doom getting up to his normal shenanigans. Doctor Doom #1 blasts off with a roaring start, challenging readers and protagonist alike with a mountain of fresh troubles for Doom, Latveria, and the world. The exquisitely-detailed art makes the characters, action, and especially the settings incredibly real. The script builds toward a remarkably subtle portrait of Doom. With continued insight and complexity, it could well become the definitive portrayal of Marvel's most iconic villain. This is one to watch for sure. Read Full Review

Is it worth the $4.99? I'd say maybe. Though I enjoyed the story quite a bit, there wasn't a real sense of urgency in this book. I'm very interested to see what happens in the next issue, but I don't quite know if it's a book that I'll think about until then. Read Full Review

While the flat art is a hinderance, the script turns Doctor Doom #1 into an excellent first issue and a darn solid comic in general. The plot and characterization could go in any number of ways, bringing a sense of urgency to the proceedings. I haven't looked forward to the next issue of a series like Doctor Doom in a while, and it feels great. Read Full Review

For those of you like me who have been fans of Victor Von Doom for his bombastic speech patterns and strangely niche iron fist, this will ring very true to what you know and love. The beauty, however, is that Cantwell has taken Doom's oddities, sternness, and arrogance and turned it into something much more human than you'd expect. Read Full Review

Even with an expanded page count, Cantwell feels like he might be overstretching himself a bit " there's lots of good stuff here, from Doom fighting off international bounty hunters to a bleakly comic look at his pettiness towards the media, but adding in cameos from Kang or Doom fantasizing about another life that could have been feels a bit like throwing everything against the wall, even if there isn't enough room for everything to stick. Despite not being a great fan of the artwork, the plot and characters have interested me deeply and I cannot wait for the next issue to come out. Given the number of super-beings on the planet it should be easy to prove Doom's innocence, set-up as a patsy for whatever reason, but I'm guessing his surrender here will do anything but make him look more guilty and eventually push Doom into investigating the truth of the matter on his own. Fantastic. I'd say this book follows Doom characteristically more than Fantastic Four has. I'm Fantastic Four he kind of feels like he just flipped flopped from wanting to be a hero to going immediately back to his old self. This feels more right.

Prelude: It is time for Doom. Let's see how it goes. The Good: Man, Doom is great in this. Absolutely great. Menacing, smart, wise yet flawed. Also I love the glimpses we get of Latveria Art is also on point throughout the issue. That cliffhanger. It leaves so much open for this series and I love this direction. The Bad: None. Conclusion: An amazing start for Doctor Doom. I can only wish that it continues this momentum.

First of all, I absolutely loved the art. The writing was strong, and it was really nice to read a somewhat political story rather than Doom just being a good/bad guy while fighting other villains/heroes (pick your stand). The characterisation was just so much stronger than it was on the recent Fantastic Four book. It was a great start of the story and I really hope it won't disappoint.

Benevolent dictator Doom is tormented by visions of an alternate reality, mysterious visits from Kang the Conqueror, and a save-the-world project he is certain will go awry. The script does an admirable job bringing Doom to life and orchestrating a fascinating plot. The art is decent for characters and action and genuinely world-class when it comes to settings. Castle Doom has never looked better.

Besides a few minor parts, Doctor Doom 1 was fantastically written from almost start to finish. Larroca's art was by far the best part of this issue by the way. Cantwell delivers a very interesting plot and my only complaint is that Doom seemed weak and out of character when he surrendered immediately to the UN

Not bad but not great either. The positives are the it shows just how differently Doom is seen by his own people and the rest of the world. His dialogue on the news and the Brexit joke were also great! The negatives are that it doesn't have the bang that I expected. But it wasn't bad by any means.
