Cyclops Issue 1 (2026) is a glorious lesson in discomfort. Everything is stripped away from Scott, anything which could make the upcoming journey easier. Read Full Review

When this run was announced, no one was more excited than me. Now I see that excitement was rightly placed because this comic was fantastic! We're getting a great closer look at Scott Summers that we haven't gotten to see for a long time, and so far, it's emotional, exciting, and extremely compelling. Read Full Review

Cyclops #1 is a fast-moving issue that sets up the next four issues of this five-issue limited series and features excellent, darkly cinematic artwork. The issue only stops its pace very briefly to hammer home the deep characterization of the X-Men’s leader for both new and longtime readers. Read Full Review

Cyclops #1 is a strong, effective start to what promises to be a brutal, gritty survival story. Nods to past X-Men story are appreciated, particularly in how they are contextualized in the present, and while some of those encounters could have used more time to develop, the highlighting of Marvel history is worth praising nonetheless.  < Read Full Review

It's clear that this book is a labor of love and that the team on board has put their time – and their hearts – into portraying Scott's character and his story in a meaningful way. I'm eager to see where they take it next. Read Full Review

When I first started reading this book, I was really happy with it, but as it went on, it just felt like we were getting a pretty standard X-story starring Cyclops. One of the problems with the X-office lately is that so much of it is kind of cliche; these books can still be entertaining, but there's no depth to them. Cyclops #1 has that feel, just like the art feels like every other generic X-book out there. This isn't a bad comic; it's entertaining with some cool art. However, if you're looking for a book that's going to dig into Cyclops and change the way you look at him, you're not going to get that. Cyclops fans will like this book, but I don't really see it bringing a lot of new readers to the character. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez

    Feb 11, 2026

Cyclops #1 commits the cardinal sin of first issues by spending twenty pages setting up a premise it barely begins to deliver. The survival thriller advertised on the cover and teased in promotional materials exists almost entirely in potential rather than execution, with the actual "Cyclops hunted while blind" scenario occupying perhaps three pages of a standard-length comic. The concept has legs, the execution of this debut chapter is fatally unfocused, front-loading exposition when it should be delivering tension and excitement. Read Full Review

Plot Cyclops saves Quentin and Magik on a mission at an A.I.M. facility. Scott is frustrated because his team isn't behaving like soldiers. In Alaska, he receives a message from Dr. Robin Hanover, who worked at the orphanage where Scott was tortured. Regretting her inability to help him, she begs for forgiveness as she is terminally ill. She recounts a past event involving Cyclops destroying a wing, but neither he nor his brother Alex remember it. The sequences of Cyclops using his powers are mesmerizing. Donald Pierce creates a new team of cyborg-enhanced humans called the Reavers, who have kidnapped several mutants to drill into a mysterious mine. On his return from the orphanage in the Quinjet, Cyclops is mistaken for an Ave more

Cyclops #1 is a tense, smart start to the series that really leans into who Scott Summers has become and why. We can feel that every decision he makes, every calculated move, every demand for discipline from his team, comes from his traumatic past. The issue emphasizes how his experiences, the losses he’s endured, and the pressures he’s carried have shaped him into who he is, good and bad. The setup exciting. We get a real sense that Scott isn’t just a another hero with superpowers. It’s a strong, character-driven launch that made me invested in Scott and sets up high stakes for the series.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Scott Summers, and a Cyclops series seems like an odd idea, since Scott has never been known for going on solo missions. Anyway, I think there’s some potential, especially if the series functions as a tool for some character growth - hopefully into a better man than the terrorist asshole we’ve seen in the last fifteen or so years. After reading the issue, I’m not so sure this is going to happen. The series probably exists for one reason: Marvel literally throws any X-Men character solo title at the reader to see which one sticks. And they haven’t really tried Cyclops before. I’m not sure this is going to help anyone though. Cyclops #1 is not the worst comic ever, but it’s also not very good. The writing i more

Let's get this right out in the open- I love the X-men. I grew up reading them and ever since Hickman left the X-men have been in deep decline. Krakoa was largely a mess and from the ashes is a disaster. when almost all the books in the relaunch are canceled I know I'm not alone in this thinking. I want good X-men books. So far this hasn't happened and this book doesn't turn that around. We get essentially 3 different stories in this that barely connect. the Excessive exposition is clunky and just bad. Scott is highly unlikeable as the main star of his own book. Do I view him as a military commander or a survivor with repressed memories? Scott is once again back on this authoritarian nonsense that was never present to this degree in pa more
