Overall, I haven't minded this little arc. As I am not reading Empyre, I was a little concerned that these would be lame duck issues. With Thompson introducing Lauri-Ell, she has given us a sort of “Carol-by-proxy” to keep the readers entertained, whilst Carol is doing her war stuff off panel. A surprisingly well executed arc. With Captain Marvel #21 Carols battle through the Empyrestoryline comes to a close. It successfully delivers a strong finish to this narrative diversion. And while it couldve been just that, a diversion, it instead managed to deliver yet another promising character we can add to the already sterling line up of support players to Carols story. The end of the Empyre event feels like a relief because the tie-in issues haven't been as interesting as other arcs have been. What kept this arc from completely falling flat was the introduction of Lauri-ell as a character, as well as the inclusion of Captain Marvel's close friends War Machine, Hazmat, and Spider-Woman as Accusers. While it would be great to see those characters come back in future issues, hopefully, they won't have the pressure of carrying the entire arc on their shoulders.  Read Full Review

Carol and her supporting cast win a small-scale Cotati fight. More significantly, Lauri-Ell takes up the Accuser hammer and everybody agrees it looks good on her. This issue is pretty low-stakes by the standards of the cosmic event going on, but the art is solid, the characterization is powerful, and the humor is both hilarious and character-driven. This is a terrific conclusion to the current arc.

While the comic's pacing was a little off, there was a lot of good character moments here that make it worth reading. I'm excited to see where the title goes from here. There's always something limiting about tie-ins. Now we're in uncharted waters again! Exciting!

It was fine. The whole Captain Marvel mini Empyre segment was fine. This issue just wraps up the small conflict with Carol as Accuser and her half Sister Lauri'ell, and while she is a fun goofball with huge arms, this issue was pretty bland. It had some great action in this issue, but the writing just didn't really grab like the last two. A cool thing is that Lauri-ell became the Accuser, albeit in a very cheesy way, and I guess it was something to be expected. Nothing big or exciting or impactful to me, this is most definitely not a mandatory read for Empyre, but its was a fun quirky side story with some good heart-felt joy and a neat ending.
