Black Widow #5 solidifies this series as one of the best Marvel series the company is publishing right now. Kelly Thompson, Elena Casagrande, and Rafael De Latorre work perfectly in sync to challenge Natasha Romanoff in ways that create a compelling narrative around her character. Where that narrative ultimately ends up at creates a lot of excitement for the unknown future of this Black Widow series moving forward. I was disappointed this story was over but turns out it's still ongoing?! Kelly Thompson has been a dark house. Her Black Widow and Captain Marvel have been great.

Black Widow comics have always been maddening to me. Natasha is one of the best characters in the Marvel universe, and her comics always have incredible artists working on them, but for whatever reason the writing is almost always below par. But now that we're done with the first arc I can confirm: this is the Black Widow comic I've been waiting for. This issue was the best comic I've read all year, and I can't wait for issue 6.

This is a near perfect conclusion to the story arc and drives home just how formidable but also how vulnerable the Black Widow can be. Even when somd of the biggest emotional beats turn out to be red herrings it doesn't take away from the effect this story will have on Jay. The action sequences are fantastic once more with these artist bringing clarity, fluidity and intensity to the battle depicted. This book demands picking up if you aren't already on the train. These first 5 issues are a great read and this was a fantastic conclusion to the first arc.

Nat and her friends clobber the bad guys and steer, in elegant super-spy fashion, to what looks like a happy ending. It's been an emotional wringer for the protagonist, though, and full respect is paid to what she's lost even in winning. It's melodramatic stuff, but conveyed with art and prose that are racing each other toward perfection.

Elena Casagrande is such a good artist, and Kelly Thompson writes this series so well. I hope this series goes for a while. I know how stingy Marvel is being with it so far.

Pretty good even if the twist was obvious for me but well done nonetheless. Kelly Thompson is good at this writing thing. Casagrande is awesome as usual but can work on some motion figures for certain positions when characters are moving in action but look static. Still the Hawkeye spread and the other 90% is fantastic!! DeLatorre looks like a pretty good one too. Looking forward to his art on issue 6.

Really good conclusion to this fantastic first arc. Loved every page of it, easily one of the best modern Black Widow stories. Hoping the next story is just as good.

Wow this was a lot, especially for an opening arc. In 5 issues (closer to 4 actually), Thompson introduced Nat’s fiancé and son, faked their deaths, revealed that they are still alive, and wrote in an explanation for why they will probably be mentioned in a Marvel comic again. The art was perfect and I loved the action, but it just feels kinda cheap knowing that Stevie and James will never be mentioned again, it takes away a lot from the emotional scenes in this issue

The conclusion of this story showcases just how strong Natasha truly is. As a parent, your child’s happiness supersedes your own, and to be able to make the sacrifice she did is the ultimate strength. This series continues to have some of the best artwork out there. There is a great double page of Hawkeye unleashing on a group of Hydra soldiers from above. Natasha’s new uniform design looks great and I’m excited for the series return in April. Not bold enough. This story could be like Wanda and Vision. But instead, just after three issues, the writer said: “ I think I have done enough, let’s just finish it.” So it ends with just five issues. Such a pity.
