The editorial team on Black Widow has done an excellent job of bringing together two different art teams on a single issue. The flow of moods across different artists seems remarkably well-orchestrated. DC had tried something similar in the pages of Catwoman not too long ago to lesser effect. Theres a powerful direction to the narrative that exists quite well in drama and action. Its a sharply-rendered issue. Natasha is given a challenge that is uniquely hers. So often, earthbound superhero stories can feel pretty interchangeable. Thompson has constructed a story that is so uniquely Natasha. For fans of the character, the best news here is Widow is back in fine fighting form and taking down all threats as they appear. This is just a very well written series with amazing art. I know it's inevitable that there will be an artist change for the next arc, as that's just how modern comics work, but man, the art really takes this series to the next level.

The past few writers have been trying to create a WS/Hawkeye buddy cop vibe which just isn’t working for me. Way too forced. The characters deserve better here than casting them as the idiot savants. The art depiction of Winter Soldier is hilariously cartoonish. Otherwise a great series with great art, panel layout and coloring. Deserves a 10 if not for my previous observations.

Natasha wakes up instead of Natalie. Which is a good thing, as a second wave of goons are incoming. Nat protects her family with her hero-pals' help, then goes through the crushing process of explaining to James why they have to split forever. It's hard to think of any title that's compelled me to fall in love quite so fast and so hard as this one. The flashback features premium top-shelf female spy comic art. Nothing wrong with it. It's trash next to Casagrande, that's all. I hope they don't do that again.

Her memories restored, Natasha begins piecing together the circumstances of her new life. Like her, James was abducted and implanted with false memories of a life past. Up until a few weeks prior, all they knew was a pleasant narrative, but miraculously, their child Stevie, is bio logically their own. Hawkeye and Winter Soldier arrive to orchestrate a counterattack on Natasha’s abductors when suddenly a rocket strike obliterates the room in which James and Stevie were sleeping. Elena Casagrande’s work here is great. I love how she depicts fight scenes and her ability to perfectly capture emotion is amazing. Those were some pretty big windows in the room where James and Stevie went to sleep huh Nat. Kind of amateurish. Action could have been better, but the art was good in general.
