Coates and Walker are a match made in Aaru. Whereas the previous (and returning) series artist Daniel Acua crafted an beautifully kinetic, ultra-sleek sci-fi opera wrapped in a dreamy haze, Walker endows his pages with smooth, rounded linework that gives the quiet moments a profound emotionality, while the action scenes erupt with powerful, economic precision. Thus far, "The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda" continues to be a beautifully written and drawn storyline that will cement Coates' legacy as one of the most poignant Black Panther tales with the likes of Priest and Hudlin. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Kev Walker have crafted a near-perfect short story within the larger arc. The way Coates has crafted T'Challa's journey has been brilliant, highlighting both what makes him a hero and a good king " and how, just maybe, those traits don't quite have to be in as much conflict as they were before. This is a quick story with great art and best of all, shows the reader the hero that seemed to be missing a bit from this series. I am still waiting for bigger answers to the overall story before I can be convinced to suggest to others, but this is a good first step. Read Full Review

I really enjoyed this issue. I thought it was really well done and poignant. T'Challa is being the king he is supposed to be: Protecting his people even if it costs him and the rebels in the process. It's another step towards T'Challa finding his identity again, and what better time for that than on a ship filled with people who will soon be mindwiped?

An action vignette shows T'Challa disobeying orders when the opportunity to liberate a shipload of the Empire's latest slaves presents itself. Undeniably short but also undeniably powerful thanks to the intensity and focus of both words and art.
