IN THE LAND OF THE RIGHTEOUS...
The X-Men claim they're the planets' new gods. The Eternals know that position is already filled. The Avengers are about to realize exactly how many secrets their so-called friends have kept from them. Years of tension lead to a volcanic eruption as two worlds burn. Who has leaked the X-Men's secrets to their latest foes? Why is Tony Stark abducting an old friend? And who stands in judgment over the whole world? Judgment Day from Kieron Gillen and Valerio Schiti is the apocalyptic emotional event to define the summer.

But Why Tho? - Collier "CJ" Jennings

    Jul 21, 2022

A.X.E.: Judgement Day #1ties together Marvel's three biggest ensembles for an event of epic proportions, with stellar scripting and phenomenal artwork. With such a great opening issue, I have faith that the rest of the series will continue to impress. And given that the events ofJudgement Day are set to spill out into the Marvel Universe, there's no telling who comes out unscathed and who doesn't. Read Full Review

A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #1 is intense, action-packed, well defined, easy to follow, and filled with energy thanks to Schiti and this art team. Other than not completely understanding how Sinister, Ajak and the AVENGERS fit into the picture quite yet, I'd say this issue is a must-buy to any and all current MARVEL COMIC readers and fans. Gillens setting up so many chess pieces here, and creating a threat in not only Druig, but Uranos, that could become a constant threat in the heroes lives, not just the Eternals. Hes also cementing just how important the Eternals are to the Earth, and to the rest of the Marvel universe. Will the Eternals and mutants become constant enemies? I hope not. The heroes vs. heroes thing has been done to death. Luckily I have faith in Gillen to give us something deeper than that. Read Full Review

A.X.E.: Judgment Day #1 could have been a lazy hero versus hero event, but Gillen makes sure thats not about to happen. This is a marvelous first issue, one that sets up a wonderful conflict. Schiti and Gracia are breathtaking together, their art really making everything look the best it can be. If the rest of the series is this good, fans are in for one of the best events in recent Marvel history. Read Full Review

A.X.E.: Judgement Day #1 is a solid debut delivering more than just groups clashing before fighting the greater threat. There's a lot to chew on as Gillen lays out varying motivations and resulting in actions that are questionable for many. There's also shocks, lots of shocks as the Eternals make a hell of a move that is sure to anger many. Many events in the past have started with a bang and fizzled. This is a nuke drop and here's hoping it can keep it up. Read Full Review

A.X.E.: Judgment Day #1 isn't a perfect start. Unless you have been reading the core Avengers, X-Men, and Eternals titles going into this event there will be things you'll feel your missing out on. That said, Kieron Gillen and Valerio Schiti deliver on the big moments you expect from big Marvel comic book events. "Patience, Moira, Patience. Eternals are Eternal. If nothing else, we will win by erosion." One of the best openings to an event comic I've seen in a long time. I'm a DC fanatic, but as of now Gillen is wiping the floor with Dark Crisis. The pacing was fantastic and the stakes feel grounded because of all the build-up since Eternals and even Inferno/Immortal X-men.

Gillan & Schiti provide dialogue & art to a very impressive first outing that's well paced, not overbearing & gives respect to the work Gillan put into Eternals & Hickman's X-men. The story unfolds in a way that isn't daunting to the reader & gives enough context of previous events that, like myself, will get you curious. Seriously! I want to go back & read Eternals just to learn more about Uranos. A solid start to what I feel will be an epic event.

To anyone who read this and thought, "where has this been all my life?" Do yourself a favor and read the 14 pr so issues of eternals that preceded this series. Same writer. Same amazing storytelling. But yea, this was a bang up start for an event comic. Feels large, feels epic, has plenty of action and phenomenal art from one of Marvel's golden boys.

This is more like it. Valerio Schiti matches Gillen's writing so well here, and paired with that Mark Brooks cover, this really does feel like an event. Although, with this artist, and the general feeling of Marvel not putting the work in to promote this event, I do get Empyre vibes. Not to say this is like Empyre or of the quality of Empyre. No, this is better. Gillen throws a ton at the readers in this issue, and it may seem a little daunting for some. After all, this did have a year's worth of build up in the Eternals title. But the character work and the scale of events should be enough to draw in new readers. That's the hope, at least.

I really loved this. Narration and action are perfectly balanced and every group has the right space and motivations. Also, Valerio Schiti is a wonderful artist (reminds me of my boy Patrick Gleason!). I just don't get Moira's hatred. Ok, she has every right to be mad at Xavier and Magneto... but becoming Anti-Mutant Hitler is maybe too much.

We are off with a BANG! Love the balance between the three groups and each character is so strong even with a few panels. The schism between the three groups is also so strong there's so much potential here for some rewarding drama. My only complaint is that two years in and THE FIVE have not been as developed as they should. Always side characters even when they're directly involved. I feel moments here would have hit harder if that work would have been done. The best thing about this is how the issue makes what's occurred in X-MEN, Eternals, and Aaron's Avengers feel completely planned, it's the best things about comics. three years in the making, Judgement Day has the potential to be another War of the Realms event... but... even bi more

I don't know how this reads for somebody who's been following only some of the lead-in titles. I read 'em all, so I can't gauge how effective the "catch you up" bits of exposition are. Primed by all that background reading, I think this is pretty close to a best-case scenario for a Big Dumb Event„¢. The stakes are high, the art is spectacular, the plot is already moving swiftly, and -- best of all, in my opinion -- while the event is definitely Big and Dumb, the *characters* aren't getting too dumb to make it happen. It's very good. Not quite great; there's wiggle room for minor improvements. For instance, the author wanted Uranos's trip to Arakko to look horrible without filling whole pages with carnage. I think the artist went a lit more

I like the version of Sersi better here than in the movie. She's more whimsical and flirtatious when speaking with Tony. Although they captured her and I expected her to free herself pretty easily. I was confused about her costume changing, but then I realized she could manipulate things, which also means she could have freed herself at any time. So, there's that. I haven't been reading X-men, so I don't really understand how the Five and resurrection works, but obviously pretty simply since they come back damn fast. I am reading X-Men Red and they die completely off-screen, so I guess that book is on hold for a while unless they cheapen their deaths and bring them right back. The concept is interesting and I'll keep reading it until more
