Being honest I felt this issue a little weak in the story with some situations a bit forced and predictable, other thing I can't get is the fact of reducing an important character like Taskmaster as a some kind of comedy relief just for filling a space that any other villain could fill, or well, maybein the future he will have a good reason to be there I don't know, however this issue introduces a new and mysterious villain into the Spidey universe and he looks very interesting and mean, and finally for those who missed the spider-sense (specially Peter Parker) this issue will give you very good news. Amazing Spider-Man #5 is a fun end to Nick Spencer's first story arc on this series. Throughout "Back To Basics" Spencer did a great job exploring why Peter Parker and Spider-Man need each other to be a great hero. That along with how Spencer used this scenario to strengthen Peter and MJ's relationship and Ryan Ottley's fantastic artwork made Amazing Spider-Man #5 a very satisfying conclusion. Read Full Review

The Amazing Spider-Man #5 rounded off the ‘Back to Basics' arc in a neat way, bringing the story full circle and setting up plenty of future foes for Spidey to face. The main plot device of separating Peter Parker and Spider-Man didn't last for as long as I'd hope for personally, but I can definitely see how this will impact Peter going forward. The end of Spencer and Ottleys first Amazing Spider-Man arc does a better job laying track for the future than paying off this first story arc. It has quite a bit to say about the Spider-Man ethos, but its all stuff we heard last issue. Still, the voice and ambitions here remain strong, and Im optimistic for this runs future. Amazing Spider-Man's first arc of the fresh start relaunch comes to a very predictable and tired close. Nick Spencer's by the numbers writing style and attempts at comedy this arc have really dragged this series down after a positive launch issue. Great ending to this fantastic arc. Quite gutted that Ottley won't be on the next few issues, but that's the price we pay for the biweekly schedule, and I am ok with that.

An ok ending to a pretty good arc. I like Spencer's run so far. No reason to stop now. He gets the jokes and the overall essence of Peter.

Pete successfully reintegrates with Spidey and easily overcomes the Tri-Sentinel threat. This script is skilled at doing funny silly wacky Spidey, but it fumbles when it pivots to dramatic Spidey. Also, four different villains all foreshadowing in the same issue is absurd, and not "good absurd." The art's brilliant; I'm even warming up to Mr. Ottley's take on MJ. The inconsistent tone of the script strands this issue just short of "good comic" for me.

A good issue with okayish humor but shold have been more serious. for example, the scene where peter and spidey are becoming ONE again. Should have been more dramatic. Seemed like Ryan was trying hard to make it dramatic but Nick's humorously written lines just wouldn't let him. Now talking about the art, the colors were fantastic. Character designs were sometimes, not that good, but, OKAYISH. Overall: a good but not great issue.

THE GOOD: -Nick Spencer is hilarious! The jokes almost always land, and he just has a great sense of humor perfect for Spider Man. Whoever thought he should write Secret Empire? -The art is good. I hardly even noticed the artist change in the first few pages, and I like the more simplistic art here, because it fits the series' tone well. THE BAD: -The humor here for me did kind of ruin some moments of the issue. It should have paused for a beat, to draw out the emotion or make the issue more dramatic. -The end was a bit too predictable for me. I would have much rather had a twist here rather than what everyone was expecting. -This issue was a just a bit too much. With all the villains and supporting characters, this ser ies is slowly but surely starting to go all over the place. I prefer the more focused-in-one-direction nature of the first few issues. more
