Nick Spencer provides examples of both the good and bad of his current run with Amazing Spider-Man #40. On the good end we have the developments with Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson's relationship. On the bad side there is the development with a major Spider-Man villain that ends up being a negative for what Norah Winters return means for this series. This balance of good and bad just shows how much work Spencer still has ahead of him before he can make his run on Amazing Spider-Man memorable. Read Full Review

It's cool to see year two of Spencer's run really start to come together. I'm wondering if this year will have a finale like Hunted. I'm not sure. Year one consisted of Kraven teases and character refinement. So, it was easy to give it a big finale. There was really only one storyline going. This year we have Chameleon/The Clairvoyant, Kindred, and whatever's going on with Boomerang and Kingpin. I know Kindred is getting his big arc this summer, but does that mean all this other stuff will continue building up in year three? I'm interested in seeing where it all goes. Chameleon, especially, as he's been all over the place. And I include the Symkaria/Latveria conflict with Chameleon. I'm assuming the Clairvoyant gets wrapped into that, too. There's a lot of spinning plates, and while the big picture is forming, it's kind of shocking how big it is getting. more

Not bad but the whole picture is coming together and the art is not bad either. ASM needs to get this bus rolling and stop getting distracted.

Spider-Man allows Chance to get away with his web-shooter, since there doesn't seem to be any risk to civilians. Nora reaches out to Peter Parker to join her Spidey-centric media company. Words and art are enjoyable on a page-to-page basis, but the overall plot lacks sense. What's the secret twist behind Chance's supervillain casino? I feel like this issue was supposed to reveal it but failed to do so.
