The HU titles now officially have my full recommendation. It’s clear that Nick Spencer put much thought and effort into them, rather than them being an editorially mandated cash-grab. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you why it’s important to flesh out some of these lesser known characters or fill out recent timelines of the more popular ones. It’s all painting a bigger picture with greater detail. That alone should be enough, but the interior art just sweetens the deal. Pick this up. Read Full Review

An issue that somehow managed to capture the essentials in the tragic life story of Marty Blank. One of the best in this entire run! An emotional gut punch!

I wasn’t going to read this. Looked like something I could skip. I’m so glad I didn’t. It was so well done and so sad. Book of the week out of both big companies and I’ve read them all from DC and Marvel this week including Immortal Hulk (incredible) and War of the Realms (Fantastic). Excellent issue and worth a read from anyone and everyone. Gosh it’s so sad

This felt almost lifted from Killer Croc's story in Batman The Animated Series, but it was pretty well executed. I felt bad for the Gorilla-Man.

The poor benighted Gibbon is ground between the gears of the Hunted event, and this aside story takes a moment to mourn his downfall. It's a story told with superlative skill. The script excels at soliciting sympathy, and a gritty, painful story like this is a perfect fit for Ken Lashley's art. It certainly yanked my heartstrings hard. But I do recall that this sort of petit Walter Mitty tragedy is what the Gibbon has ALWAYS been about. Stan Lee and John Romita invented him specifically to be a lovable loser. Here, he bows out, more lovable and sympathetic than ever before.
