Dec 19, 2018Though AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #12 doesn't do a lot to move the relationship between Spidey and Jameson forward, it's still an entertaining read, with tons of fantastic artwork to lift the whole thing up. Read Full Review

Dec 19, 2018Amazing Spider-Man #12 serves as a nice rundown of the history between Spider-Man and J Jonah Jameson....and also as a good reminder as to why their current understanding is a bit hard to fathom. Read Full Review

Dec 27, 2018This was a down issue of Amazing Spider-Man full of J. Jonah Jameson recap and an extended fight. Nick Spencer seems to know these characters well, but sometimes it feels like he doesnt know what to do with them. This is one of those issues. Read Full Review

Dec 20, 2018After a great set-up last issue, this issue unfortunately feels all too rote, despite some solid character beats. Spencer and Ottley are capable of so much more; that said, it isn't wholly bad, either - it just doesn't feel like anything readers haven't seen countless times before. Read Full Review

good stuff. This time we go deeper into jonah's past and explore his relationship with spider-man. It's well written, well drawn and i'm interested to see where this is heading to, especially after the reveal at the end.

This is the first issue where you could feel the effects of a bi-weekly story. The pacing was off here. It felt like too little happened. But despite that, I still really enjoyed this issue. I enjoyed the character interactions between J. Jonah Jameson and Spider-Man. We got to see a rundown of their storied history which is important to remind readers of in an arc centered around their relationship. And the ending with the Big Man got me excited. No one remembers the Big Man, but he was one of Spider-Man's earliest rogues, a crime-lord before Kingpin, or even The Crime Master. I wonder if The Big Man, if he's really the Big Man, has any plans for Kingpin after he deals with Jonah.

Psycamorean - Dec 21, 2018His art is actually a divisive subject in regards to Spider-Man. Some love it, some hate it.
myconius - Dec 21, 2018i definitely wouldn't say that i love his Spider-Man art the same way that i do Todd McFarlane, Mark Bagley, or even Erik Larsen. but i definitely can appreciate it's dynamic flow and original stylization. the above image just has a wicked composition.
Psycamorean - Dec 21, 2018I'm a fan when the suit is on. His Peter Parker looks weird. The rest of the characters are fine.
Psycamorean - Dec 21, 2018Well, he's not doing every issue. Just every other arc, so far. That could probably change.
myconius - Dec 21, 2018i'll definitely keep my eye out for a digital sale on the collected edition. it has piqued my curiosity.
ohhaimark - Dec 23, 2018Sorry for butting into your guys' conversation, but I saw the movie and LOVED it! It payed tribute to the character in the best way, it was fun, funny and original, and the animation had me in heaven. I didn't see many movies this year, but that one has to be my favorite of the year. Infinity War and Mission Impossible are a close second and third, though.
myconius - Dec 23, 2018ohhaimark - you never need feel like you are butting in. i always enjoy your conversations. :)
myconius - Dec 23, 2018that's good news to hear. i was really digging the animation from what i'd seen in trailers. good to hear a positive review about the movie itself. looking forward to seeing it.
Psycamorean - Dec 23, 2018I haven't seen it yet. I'm stubbornly doing my best not to give Sony money. I'll see it sometime later. Same with Aquaman.
myconius - Dec 24, 2018i have a similar feeling towards Sony. i'm definitely going to see Spider-Man at some point though. i'll probably wait to get the blu ray when it goes on sale.

A fun little issue, but definitely a bit of a step down from the last few.

Slightly slower than the last one, but still a great read, dwelling deeper into JJJ's life and his relationship with Spidey.

This issue was pretty good and I still enjoy the writing, but I found it a little dry I guess? Kinda slow, I dunno.

Meh, I have been loving Spencer's story thus far but this issue in particular feels like filler. A lot of this issue felt very similar to Spectacular Spider-Man #6 but without the emotional gravitas of that one shot. I still adore Ryan Ottley's art and look forward to where the story goes, just sometimes condensed storytelling generates pointless issues like this one.

I wish the surreal concept presented here was more subtle--and that there were fewer villains--and that Kingpin's plan actually made sense.

Art was ok but this story isn't doing much for me. Kind of boring.

That one page where Kingpin prioritizes delivering a salad bar/veganism joke over explaining his schemes could be Exhibit A in the case of People Who Hate Nick Spencer's Spider-Man vs. Nick Spencer. Exhibit B would be "Nobody'll notice if I straight-up steal the premise from Chip Zdarsky's Spectacular Spider-Man Annual, right? It's been six whole months!"

THE GOOD: -Nick Spencer does a great job of writing JJJ as well, he is a pretty good character writer, but Jonah is one of his best depictions. -The whole walking-through-Jameson's-past effect was really cool, and I can especially appreciate that they didn't try to stretch it out for longer than it should have been. -The scenes with Scorpion were pretty good. Not the best, but still pretty well-done. THE BAD: -I actually liked Ryan Ottley's art disappointed in this issue. It's a step down from before, and I actually believe Ramos might have been a better fit for this issue. -The humor also disappointed me this issue. I definitely didn't laugh as much as any of the other issues. -The end has me worried that this seri es will begin to feel scattered, what with all the characters and villains, and now they're having even more. The mystery villain, Kingpin and Kraven would have been enough. Really. -This issue in general was just a step down from previous issues. more

myconius - Dec 21, 2018you you say that this might be possibly worth a trade wait for someone that hasn't followed Spider-Man in quite a number of years? last time i'd read Spider-Man was right after Superior ended, and i bailed right before the huge Spider-Verse event. i'd probably be lost, i would imagine?
Psycamorean - Dec 21, 2018Start the first trade this current volume. "Back to Basics". That story does away with a lot of what Dan Slott did post-Superior while establishing a new but recognizable status quo.
myconius - Dec 21, 2018YourGreenMuse - cool! thank you! i'm going to have to keep an eye out for the next digital sale.
