Horror DNA - James Ferguson

It is an incredible story full of jaw-dropping moments, awesome artwork, and a villain that would scare even the fiercest killers of the horror genre. It also happens to redefine and elevate Venom to levels heretofore unseen. Absolute Carnage #4 does a fantastic job showing how wickedly evil Cletus Kasady is as his God-complex reaches its next level. Dark Carange's evolution complimented the hero journey Eddie Brock takes as his return to being Venom is well earned. By the time we reach the cliffhanger ending the hype for how Absolute Carnage will end is at its max level. Which is exactly how things should be heading into the final issue of a big event. The parts with Eddie are great. I don't like the sections at the back of the book, they are practically slightly modified Arkham Asylum tape rip-offs and make the characters seem very out of character in the pursuit of sounding creepy. It works when it is Zsasz, but idk about Eddie *shrug*

Prelude: Absolute Carnage has been an absolute blast so far. But we're near the end now so Cates will have to stick the landing here. The Good: It's great seeing Eddie be his own hero rather than rely on Venom. I also love Eddie's connections to all of the cast but especially with Peter. That scene was great. This issue really ties together many of the tie-in series'. Miles' is a bit confusing, see below, but I'm happy that it's being done. Surprise, surprise, Stegman's art is great. The Bad: Vulk does get taken down pretty easy. As predicted, there are some continuity issues with Miles and his own tie-in series and like I said on that review, that blame is going to that book. But I'm letting it be known here too. Bi more

While it had some issues this book was pretty great. The last few pages were intense and while I dont get why carnage just took off without the codices from the machine it was cool to see eddie do what he did.

It's good. It was saved in the last few pages. Obviously the art is great but the story by Cates is a bit inconsistent. I'll hold full judgement to the end.

Seeing Eddie fight with that Captain America shield and Space glove was extremely satisfying. I freaked out because its a mash up in heaven for me and one I thought I would never see. Surprisingly the Venom Hulk wasnt as big of a "smash" as you would hope it would be. Stegman gives him nearly no panel time and the shots he does have arent really that great. Very confusing how Eddie got the Symbiote back after making such a big deal about it being absorbed by Carnage. This story is satisfying but its a damn shame that it wasn't fleshed out a little more carefully. I suppose thats what Tie ins are for but I felt the core book should have a bit more meat on its bones. Regardless of my complaining this was a great issue visually and pretty much more

I don't often see an event and its subordinate series conflict this much. Some tie-in authors really wanted to have their heroes overcome Carnage's control, but Donny Cates is having none of it. (Miles is Exhibit A but Scream went there, too.) On the plus side, what happens to Eddie in this issue makes outstanding use of the hint from the Ghost Rider one-shot that codices carry their hosts' superpowers with them.

THE GOOD: -Overall, I find this event pretty good. I can't say I'm in love with it though. -Okay, the Venom Blast was just incredibly satisfying. -I liked the action scenes here. They didn't overstay their welcome. -Eddie's a really likable protagonist. His character is maybe my favorite part of the series. THE BAD: -I don't know, I'm usually a fan of Stegman's art, but it just doesn't click with me here. Maybe m expectations were set too high after seeing his art in the first issue. -Carnage had some great moments last issue, but here he's back to big, invincible bad dude. -The ending of this one felt kinda rushed, plus the montage or whatever didn't flow the way it was trying to.
