There is a lot that could be done around the edges of everything to make it a little bit more sharp and a little bit more defined. Its really difficult to work with the elements in question without having them all rush onto the page a little too eager to be too terribly coherent. And this is an action story, so thats kind of a Requirement. However, bringing it to the page in a way thats going to be compelling is always a challenge. Read Full Review

So that final page in the first issue stuck. They killed off a team member in the first issue. Wow, so we know that the stakes are high in this series and we might not want to get too attached to characters. Good to know. This one was a real slog of a fight and really is starting off the series with the Joe's at their lowest point. Everyone is dead, injured, missing or... well injured even worse. Given where the Energon universe is, this is really quite intense, but the Energon universe really is a bunch of rather intense books. If you like action well here it is! Enjoy! As for some notes from the story itself, Baroness being the reasonable one isnt what I expected in issue 2. Duke is really hot-headed in this version of the Joe's. I suppose that will be part of his character arc to learn to be a better more level headed leader. Will be interesting to see. Also Clutch move by Clutch! I love to see that final page, stuff is getting fun! Also Cobra Commander and Destros interactions are pretty good, a very stressed relationship they have their. Honestly in this book, everyone's relationships are so stressed, I feel like in 12-20 issues where everyone stands will be quite different. I plan to enjoy the ride! more

The second issue of GI Joe in the Energon Universe builds on the foundation everything that came before, delivering a story that’s intriguing yet feels slightly unsteady. While I found this issue more enjoyable than the debut, the narrative pacing for the Joe side of this shared universe seems to be dragging its feet. There was an urgency to launch the series, but now, just two issues in, the direction feels a little off track. Without diving into spoilers, I have to say that killing off an iconic OG Joe so early in the run was a bold choice. It certainly grabbed my attention! Additionally, the introduction of a new character has left me feeling both off balance and eager to see where the creative team is taking the narrative. My guess is the “new guy” is really Zartan. Despite these hiccups, the series is still in its "honeymoon phase," and there’s plenty of potential for things to evolve. I highly recommend GI Joe #2 to fans of the franchise, both new and seasoned, and even to the more senior Joes among us. Yo Joe! more

G.I. Joe is one of those books that I look forward to every month. I absolutely LOVE the Energon universe! Let's start off with the story, much of this is the aftermath of issue #1 where Cobra attacked the Joes. Duke is coming to the rescue, Baroness, kicks ass, there are a few casualties, and RISK is introduced. Tom Reilly's art is really what shines in this issue. This is a fast paced book, and I love it. I'm sure I'll be reading this one again! I highly suggest you get this one in your pull list ASAP! I can't find anything I don't like about the book, but I have a hard time making anything perfect. I'm still not a fan of the art in this book, but I like that they are starting the Baroness as a hero, so we get to see her transition into a Cobra operative. I like how we are starting with the Joe's taking an L to show that Cobra Commander isn't a constant pushover. Looking forward to this continuing.
