This issue hits a fever pitch of drama and suspense. As the time gets closer for the nuke to go off, and at the same time the battle between Tariq and Ash intensifies, it really creates an amazing atmosphere for this issue. Tariq Geigers story reaches a resting point beyond all the conflcit, but there is clearly more on the horizon ad Johns and company work their way through a story that might end up delivering one of the longer-run post-apocalyptic wasteland heroes in the history of sci-fi. So often the main character of a post-apocalyptic world really is the world itself. With Geier, Johns has made a super-heroic character who is actually quite a bit more interesting than the world that he inhabits. Its compelling stuff. Read Full Review

Plot The nuclear bomb beneath Lewistown explodes, and Geiger removes his boron rods and attempts to absorb all the radiation. He even absorbs Ashley's, curing her, which is exactly what she wanted. However, the radiation is higher than expected, and Ashley relents and helps Tariq absorb it all. The radiation levels drop to zero, while General Blackwood warns President Griffin that it's all over. Griffin has radiation-derived powers that he has yet to reveal. Junkyard Joe is disconnected due to the electromagnetic wave, and Nate wrests him from The Custodian. Geiger, Molotov, Ashley, Nate, Junkyard Joe, Barney, and Zig Zag escape the army's reach and are about to leave in a pickup truck, but Ashey abandons them. Geiger asks Molo tov to fix Junkyard Joe, while he takes Nate, Barney, and Zig Zag to meet Hailee and Henry, the two children he helped save in the first volume of this saga. Ashley continues to use her powers to deliver justice, and they reveal that The Custodian needs Junkyard Joe so he can activate an army of soldiers/robots that are dormant and don't know how to put them to work. This concludes another brilliant story arc that confirms this is one of the best comic series of the moment, from its art to its brilliantly narrated plot by Geoff Johns, where the reading becomes addictive and impossible to put down until the last page. Art Gary Frank and Brad Anderson achieve the perfect balance of highly detailed and organic art with clear colors that hold nothing back. Every panel on every page is mesmerizing; every time you look at it, you discover new and incredible details. The splash pages Gary creates will leave you stunned. Rob Leigh's lettering is an onomatopoeic adrenaline rush. Summary Geiger sacrifices himself to save Lewistown, but he needs all the help he can get to prevent it from becoming another nuclear tragedy. There are several shocking revelations and a spectacular conclusion to this fourth story arc. more

This issue wrapped up a great story with a tearful ending in a good way.The artwork is always great and I'm looking forward to future issues with this kind of high quality writing and art.

Ashley Arden’s change of mind was a bit too sudden, considering she had worked on her batshit crazy plan for such a long time. Anyway, Tariq returning to the children he rescued made up for it. Art is perfect as usual.

This might have been one of my favorite issues. It felt like the stakes were there and leads to some growth in characters.

Another good issue. I have to admit that I teared up a bit when Tariq introduced Nate to the kids as his friend. I think Ashley Arden is a good character, and I'll miss her.
