Transformers: Beast Wars #1 is a good introduction to the property. It has me excited to see what's next and has me wanting to go back and watch the animated series. It's fun in many ways. There is enough elements that are familiar for longtime fans with teases for diversions while completely new readers will be interested in this new iteration ofTransformers. A brand new Beast era begins in this issue! In the future, Cybertron is run by the Maximals and the Predacons. A successor to the Megatron name leads a team of Predacons on a mission to obtain a golden disk full of information from Maximal Command and a ship capable of traveling through time in search for a planet with an abundance of Energon. Now it’s up to Optimus Primal and his Maximal crew to step up to the challenge and stop the Predacons. This series serves a Transformer: Beast Wars reboot, as well as a celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. As a child, Beast Wars was one of my favorite television shows so you can only imagine my excitement when I seen the solicitation for this series! This first issue does a great job honoring the show’s history as well as starting a new fresh jumping on point for new fans. This issue also introduces two new characters to the series for both sides. This story was so well written, you couldn’t even tell they were new as they fit right in with both teams. The artwork from cover to cover was fantastic and remains true to the consistent artwork we have gotten over the years for a transformer series. I’m truly in love with the variant cover as well! Nothing like have my two favorite characters from the show headlining the reboot! Fans of Transformers definitely need to jump onto this series ASAP! Beast Wars is back baby! Cue the electric guitar! The first issue of this new Beast Wars series is a reboot of the orignal cartoon. It retells the pilot of the old show, yes, but it adds in new characters, new details & some more nuances. It's going to be interesting to see if Burnham will be able to pay off all of the seeds planted in this first issue, both the once he took directly from the show as well as the once he introduced into the story himsel. The writing is good, the art might not be everybody's cup of tea though. It's something I think I'll need to get used to. Fully Recommended.

It's a bit early to tell, but the writing is alright so far. Sounds like this will essentially be a remake that goes it's own way. I am a bit puzzled why the characters start out with animal-centric names in this version, but I could buy that the animal names somehow trickle down into our culture from theirs... Or that they're probably speaking Cybertronian anyways and it doesn't matter, lol. I can't say I'm a fan of the art, which is a shame because the artist is a big fan and has a history in coloring Beast Wars comics. I just don't like the design and style chosen to depict these characters, it looks blocky and unpleasant.
