I had a blast with this issue. It's one of the funniest forays in the Year of the Villain and harnesses the award show appeal very well. This is yet another example of Russell delivering comedic commentary on society and Mike Norton carrying those ideas forward cleanly and comedically. Read Full Review

My main question about Harley Quinn: Villain of the Year #1 is, how does DC keep letting Mark Russell get away with this? This comic isn't just a reveal of the winners of DC's month of online voting tying in with Year of the Villain, it's the funniest send-up of their entire line of comics I've seen in a while. As another in a long line of tie ins to DC's Year of the Villain event, I found this book to be the most fun out of them all. Its biting humor and unrepentant jabs at current comics events and societal norms made it something I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It could have done more, but it's solid in its execution for what it is: an awards show styled issue where DC's most vital villains come together to celebrate themselves. Read Full Review

I really like the art by Mike Norton here. It is expressive and fluid but not overly cartoonish. This is some of his best work. I loved this very much. It was a pretty decent and unexpectedly fun read. Read Full Review

Harley Quinn's Villain Of The Year #1 maybe just a one-shot comic, but I hope it is something they decide to do traditionally. It was a rare treat to some fluff amid what has been some serious times in the Harley Quinn universe. I for one was happy to have some respite. For me, I give it a 9 out of 10 for the sole purpose that I wanted just a bit more from it but all in all, it was enjoyable and well worth the read. Read Full Review

Villain of The Year is like the (early 2000s) Kids Choice Awards meets the anger of Kanye West when Taylor Swift won that award over Beyonc. Just imagine all of that fun energy with the aura of a side eye through the whole night. That's the best way to describe the movements from the creative team. I would love to see more issues like this, each with a chaotic neutral host that brings out the personality of these villains Read Full Review

This is an enjoyable book. Like most specials it's not going to blow anyones mind but the characters are handled well, the story is decent for this kind of book and the art fits the comedic tone very well. A solid read. Read Full Review

Superhero comedy rarely works very well. Supervillain comedy? It almost works here. It may not be brilliant, and for the most part, there really isnt anything to laugh at here, but its a fun, little bit of strangeness for the end of the year. Read Full Review

    But Why Tho? - Cidnya

    Dec 11, 2019

Harley Quinn: Villain of the Year #1 is overall, disappointing. There is so much potential to make this a fun addition for lovers of both Harley Quinn and some of the best villains in all of the DCU. With floundering humor and a lackluster script, this 4.99 title feels more aligned with a cash grab than a fun experience for readers who engaged in the vote. Read Full Review
