    AIPT - David Brooke

The Demon #1 is an excellent showcase for James Harren, whose monster designs and expressive storytelling make Gotham feel infested with supernatural danger. Keeping Etrigan largely restrained gives Jason Blood room to establish himself as a capable, compelling lead, while glimpses of ancient history suggest Harren has much bigger plans for both characters. The mythology can be difficult to parse this early, but the mystery only makes the world more enticing to explore. Read Full Review

This is an excellent first issue that drops us right into the madness to come, with a lot of fun silliness mixed in with the superhero action. Read Full Review

The Demon #1 delves into the fantastical corners of DC Comics, where a confused but determined Jason Blood takes on the demons infesting the city. James Harren’s imaginative plot is instantly engaging, and his artwork kicks up the whimsy by several notches. Read Full Review

The Demon #1 is more the Jason Blood show than the Etrigan although there are loads and loads of other demons populating the nooks and crannies of Hell and Hell on Earth aka Gotham City. Read Full Review

Jason Blood’s fight sees old evils and new threats arise in a peculiar opening bout. Harren delivers a striking visual experience while the story heavily stages events with questions about. A perfectly staged welcome for Etrigen’s latest adventures. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

One of the great trewngths of Jack Kirby’s Etrigan is that it CAN be fused with a lot of other different occult horror elements to turn into sometihng drastically different with each iteration while maintaining the central core of a highly adaptable personality. So long as the central idea behind a new Demon series is interesting, everything else should theoretically work out quite well. Given Harren’s overall direction in the first issue, it’s going to be a success. Harren knows how to tell an interesting story. That’s all that’s absolutely needed. Read Full Review

The Demon #1 takes the common Demon story and sets it on its ear. DC has several other magic books, with Zatanna being the big superhero book and Deadman the low key horror mystery book. The Demon under James Harren looks like it’s going to be big, cartoon-y action, showing the breadth of what DC magical titles can be, which is the perfect way to write Jason and Etrigan. You’re going to have questions after you put this one down, but they’re the kind that make you want to pick up the next issue. Read Full Review

I'm really happy with The Demon #1. Harren has a distinct art style that serves the world of The Demon well. The protagonist’s conflict is very clear, though the antagonist’s conflict could be more explicit. The new line of books DC is putting out seems fairly friendly to new readers, and this book is no exception. This is a good showcase of what beings exist in the greater DC Universe. I can only speak for myself, but this makes me want to go back and read earlier books of the Demon, at least just for the art. I cannot wait to see what unfolds in this book. Read Full Review
