Superman: Son Of Kal-El #18 is a pretty good last issue for this book. It leads into the next phase of Jons life well. Taylor has created a fantastic series so far, and it will be interesting to see where he takes Jon next. Tormey, Coleman, Hanna, and Fajardo Jr. have all done nice work, and Sharpes letters are the icing on the cake. This issue closes out this book in great fashion. Read Full Review

I read a lot of 'special' issues growing up where topics like racism, drug abuse, mental health, and child abuse happened. I read comics where the allegory for racism and homophobia were evident but it was allegory not story. As I have said before, creators need to walk a fine line when inserting a true real life issue into a world with super-powered aliens. I don't know if this title succeeded. When Taylor concentrates on the character and not the issue, he shines. I have liked his work elsewhere. But this book has seemed heavy-handed. It is why a simple message like Jon talking to Clark here was so appreciated. Read Full Review

to be honest, after reading this entire series all at once, its not too bad at all. Wished Jon's boyfriend got more development, but it was decent. tackled some political messages, but it was light entertaining fluff. But I dont like Cain Tory's art though, it looks hideous.

If you think this is the death knell of DC, you clearly haven't read anything from the last 30 years of DC. DC has bounced back from much worse. This is serviceable. It's fine. I don't understand the marketing strategy for this run. Should just let it go another six issues, but I guess there can only be two mainline Superman books at a time.

The finale of this book kind of sums up SOKE as a whole. It was a mixed bag of good genuine moments (JLA rebuilding Kent house has to be one of my favourites), some uninspired plot beats (mostly dull villains and conflicts) and decent to servicable art. Although I'm really excited for Jon getting new powers. And people who pretend this is the worst book clearly haven't read bad books.

I've read the entire run. The characters were not developed enough to care about, the art was really really bad in spots. The series was rushed to include parts in order to give sales bumps. So in short, it was canceled for good reason.

Just kind of dull. Now that "the return" is over, whatever happened to the foreshadowing before Supes went to WarWorld when Jon told him that from this point on, he's never mentioned again in history books. It's never been mentioned again, far as I know. Also, don't the Kents have neighbors? No comes around to see the whole JLA build a house?

Canceled after 18 issues. That's a shame...Yeah yeah it's getting a 6 issue mini series but that is still being canceled.
