Superman #31 is another great chapter in Phillip Kennedy Johnson's father-son story. Johnson proves that he has a strong grasp on the relationship between Superman and his son. And Sean Lewis' "Tales of Metropolis" continues to be an entertaining romp that brings some underused favourite characters back into the spotlight. Read Full Review

Johnson, Godlewski and Rapmund deliver an interesting side-adventure which is integral to the re-development of Jon Kent as a prominent character in the DC Universe. They're pulling it off more successfully than most anyone could imagine following such a negative fan reaction to the character's initial aging up. A story about Superman fighting an alien invasion reveals itself to be much deeper than it appears. The creative team shows the bond between father and son, and teaches that it came be complicated while still loving and respectful. Its only drug down by some rough moments in fill-in art. Superman #31 is another great Superman comic. Kennedy highlights one of Supermans weaknesses while also showing one of his strengths- his selflessness. He keeps playing with the whole fathers and sons thing, and it works. Godlewski and Rapmunds art is pretty great and fits the story well, and the backup is pretty good, even if it reads a little fast. All in all, this is an entertaining read. Read Full Review

While the story isn't all that intriguing or surprising, there are some character elements to this issue that I really enjoy and amazing art throughout the book. I just wish that we didn't have this backup bogging down the series with its nonsense. Hopefully, things will get better as this series continues but right now Superman isn't a series that I find myself looking forward to. Read Full Review

I thought this was an okay issue. But I don't find the plot too compelling. And the father/son theme isn't different from one issue to the next so feels a bit repetitive. I am intrigued how it all gets solved in the end. Read Full Review

Really enjoyed this book, I like the way that Johnson portrays the dynamic between Jon and his dad. The set looked great especially the action sequences, though the faces were a little cartoonish. My one complaint is that I have not been hooked by the secondary stories at the end. Over all very enjoyable.

I loved how they are building Jon to be a more creative and strategic Superman. Perhaps, Godlewski art dont get me, still, it works in this issue.

This was so dull this week. Plus, they gave him, by inference, an unnecessary powerup with midair superbursts by just copying Jon.

This story's kind of a bore and though this whole transition arc about John coping with the burden of living up to his father's mantle has felt really surface level and repetitive, I felt this issue had better examples of what John's dealing with.

This series continues to rely on padded out stories with a lot of ponderous narration, but this issue at least has a fairly good plot twist. I also suspect the building of the relationship between Superman and Jon we see here will pay off with what's been announced for later this summer in the Superman line.

The main story was okay, but there's not much to say about it. The backup... I've lost the plot of. I don't know what's happening anyway. I don't think that's on me, though.

I like how Johnson writes the father/son dynamic beetween Clark and Jon but the story feels generic. On top of that, the art and colors were not as good as they were last issue, they are mediocre in here.

Less entertaining, less interesting and less worth the money. That's how this issue is compared to the last. This is the worst story I've seen since Bendis left. The sad part is THIS is how Superman's regular title is to finally go out after 81 years. Not with a bang. Not with a big showdown with Luthor, Brainiac or even Bizarro. But with an incredibly boring prelude to what no fan asked for: Jon replacing his dad. Superman's answer to the Spider-Man clone saga is coming. Let me know when it's over and safe to come back.
