You do know Alan Moore wrote Watchmen, right? That is like the complete opposite of what he describes in Flex Mentallo. This is the realistic hero, the fallible hero. Alan Moore is talking about hopeful fantasy heroes. He has a point with both. I think both should exist.

Jul 14, 2020Strange Adventures #3 is another excellent installment of the latest comic to feature the adventures Adam Strange. It's wonderfully illustrated by Mitch Gerads and Evan "Doc" Shaner. Their work alone is worth the price of admission. Tom King is genuinely writing a fantastic comic. However, and it is a potentially significant "however," one can't help but be perplexed by the anomalies in King's script. His track record with Heroes in Crisis shows he's not afraid to permanently damage a beloved character. Adam Strange's reputation is hanging in the balance with this series. So far, even if King assassinates Adam's character, the journey is a thousands time more enjoyable and well execute than Heroes in Crisis. Read Full Review

Jul 21, 2020Strange Adventures has a lot of strangeness ahead for us so I'm not placing a ton into what we're getting here other than it being some of the foundational elements and setup. It's fascinating to watch unfold because it plays to the kind of storytelling I like with a slower more methodical thing, less of the big action sequences. Even as the main fight plays out here it's more of a "slugfest" like They Live than a traditional superhero series fight and that appeals a lot. The bigger story still feels like it hasn't truly revealed itself in a way that really gets into the meat of things but I'm fascinated by what Mr. Terrific is up to and the way it unbalances those like Alanna and Adam into potentially making some sort of mistake if there really is an issue here and not just an elaborate framing setup going on. Tom King gives readers a mystery without clues and an off-panel investigation, which makes it nearly impossible to play along. It's a whisper down the lane plot that keeps changing focus and thus gets nowhere. MASSIVE step up from what felt like a directionless last issue. This maxi is really coming into it's own with the 3rd issue.

This was absolutely jam packed considering it is a 3 panel story with two stories unfolding at once. The last few issues it felt like whether something was up or not, was up in the air, however this one suddenly got dirty feeling. The art really captures feigned smiles and disappointment in oneself. As a fan of Adam Strange and his secondary cast of characters, and having to read Sardath's turn from lovable elder to messed up survivalist... I hope Alanna is only just making it look worse for herself. I am pretty sick of political comics, and this is definitely one, but it is actually relevant and comes off as realistic. There really is an alternative media station that loves to soil the water by bringing up much smaller things as a count more

This just got spicy. With the conspiracy we are left with in Issue 2, King jumps the gun and kicks the story into high gear. The image of Adam Strange and what exactly happened on Rann, as well as what might happen to Earth is now becoming more and more muddled and elusive as this issue goes on, and thats exactly what King wants you to see. King is hiding something, and he is hiding it damn well. Art by Both Gerads and Shaner of course superb, some of DC's best art, on top of coloring an panel layouts. Read it for the art styles alone. But how this sci-fi crime hybrid takes is course is very masterfully done. My thoughts on Strange Adventures #2 by Tom King, Evan Shaner and Mitch Gerads: Two days ago I read Flex Mentallo, Grant Morrison's thesis on what heroes should represent in our society. His idea was that heroes are our modern mythology and should represent a sort of unbridled optimism that can be seldom found elsewhere. This isn't to say that heroes are perfect, but when they're frequently portrayed as damaged, it's hard to believe they're ever anything else. So while this issue is well written and filled with drama, it's almost hard for me to divorce this from my mind as Adam and Alanna come across as almost cartoonish villains. Adam in particular comes across as whiny, and completely against investigation, which makes him look obvious more

This is a step up from the prior issue. The Stranges are getting uncomfortable with Terrific's course of investigation and seek to manage public opinion in their favor in case of a negative outcome. The outcome of the duel between Strange & Kklint was predictable & less interesting. I was wondering if the flashbacks represent the idealized events in Stranger's book or are what actually did happen? No Mister Terrific trivia in this issue thankfully.

Alanna is obviously the murderer. King is still teasing us as to what crimes Adam may have committed as well as what Terrific's judgement was (we only saw the aftermath). King however does it very sloppily; the dialogue is a drag, but better than his Mister Miracle husband/wife banter. I thought Batman's dialogue was serviceable but the story itself is moving at a snails pace. Gerads art is magnificent tho.

This is fine, I guess. I mean, if you wanted me to root for Alanna's downfall, you did good. She's clearly an awful person. I'm frankly sick of this story already, which is probably not a good sign, and I'm not interested in what happens next anymore.
