If you had fallen off the Nightwing book, then this is a perfect issue to return with. If you stayed with the book, then Dan Jurgens and company have found a new hook to reward the fans. Overall, this issue is really something out of left field, but in a good way for the current Nightwing saga. The story was one that really was needed due to the current state of events to really make sense of things and may be a key turning point to help get Nightwing back on top. The art blows anything of late out of the water as well and this is just a must read issue. Nightwing Annual #2 is the comic book that the entire Ric Grayson story desperately needed. Dan Jurgens did more to create a sense of importance in the Ric Grayson story within these 38 pages than the last sixteen issues of Nightwing did combine. I am now finally invested in the Ric Grayson story Jurgens is telling in Nightwing, which I never expected to be. This is definitely an issue that Nightwing fans and those reading the current Batman run should pick up. Read Full Review

Yeah, you'll get a lot of what you've already learned about what made Dick Grayson, Ric Grayson, but you'll also get so much more as well that really just opens up the story in new and interesting ways.  We got some great art and while it doesn't have to do anything too dynamic with this low key story, everyone looked great throughout.  Thankfully this Annual did something unique because it brings new interest in a series that was starting to feel tired. Despite the troubling core premise of this chapter, Nightwing Annual #2 is technically well put together. 'Travis Moore's art is stellar and he's the rare artist who has great control over facial "acting" as well as dynamic page layouts. Moore was saddled with a series of conversations and he still made it exciting to look at. Jurgens does his best to layer a sense of dread through the issue with the Court of Owl threat looming, but it feels like too little too late. I want the series to move on sooner rather than later, and having this annual wring its hands in an attempt to further enrich a status quo doomed to change in the coming months makes it all come off"misguided. Prelude: Another annual in Annual's Week, we have Nightwing Annual #2. We can finally get some connection between Batman #55 and Nightwing #50 so if Jurgens does this well, I might dislike Ric less. Yeah, who am I kidding? The Good: The Owls careful manipulation especially during therapy worked immensely well and I loved it. It also reveals the light on between Batman #55 and Nightwing #50. Especially Bruce's connection and reaction to it all. The Bad: It's damage control due to the fan backlash against Ric. Conclusion: This is a strong annual showing how the Court of Owls have taken advantage of KGBeast's shot on Dick. While the issue is strong in of itself, it is obvious damage control from fan reactions.

What began as just Dick recovering from a brain injury and becoming someone else is shown to be something far deeper and darker. This issue shows us that Dick is being manipulated and his memories suppressed all along. We finally get to see why Dick/Ric has been acting the way he has and are given some much needed progression in the story. Before this issue little to nothing really made any sense and truthfully was just boring. I have no interest at all in the Nightwings. Their characters are just lame and unappealing in every way. Hopefully this arc will finish their run in the book and give us back the reason we fans read this series - Dick Grayson as Nightwing !!! This issue was good but it had to glaring mistakes in it. Number 1 b eing Dick Grayson’s parents were not shot , their trapeze ropes were tampered with causing them to fall to their deaths. Number 2 being he lost twenty years of memories? Dick is only supposed to be in his twenties. And if I remember right he was 11 or 12 when Bruce took him in. Number 3 Dick is no longer his ward. Bruce adopted him. That makes him his son. Why can the writers never get that right when it comes to any of his adopted sons. They are NO longer considered your ward or your foster child or your guardian once they are adopted. They are your parent and child!!! That just drives me nuts. more

This annual gives us informations& scenes we should have already seen 1 year ago in Kings Batman run, when Dick was shot. If we had seen these scenes with the batfamily I am sure fans wouldnt have hated the idea of Ric so much. Only shows once again what bad writer King is. Most of this should have been in his Batman run right after Dick was shot. Most of the things, we get to know here were already adressed in Nightwing 50& 54, but we finally get a better explanation, why Ric hates the name Dick so much. Since Bruce acted like a sellfish& insensitive ass in this issue, we can understand more, why Ric doesnt want to remember him. Fans of Dick also get some nice flashbacks from his childhood. However what feels really forced to me is, th at Ric‘s memory loss is all due to a manipulation of the Court of Owls& not because of the wound itself, what would make things more interesting& also more realistic. This way neither Dick or Bruce have to ever take responsibility for his injury, because they can always blame the court. It‘s indeed a deus ex machina. more
