Mister Miracle #3

There is so much subtle storytelling here. The use of stories from Scott's memory, the references to Dr. Bedlam, the shaky, fuzzy depictions of panels, all tell the story without forcing any exposition on the reader. This is a book that trusts its readers to just get what is presented to them through the images. King and Gerads continue to tell a fantastic psychological drama with an emotional depth that will not let you put this comic down. Read Full Review

As for those who say this comic doesn't live up to its hype, my (not so) humble opinion is that they're flat-out wrong. It does that and much more, and I am certain it will be considered one of the greatest comic books of our era. Anyone who calls themselves a comic book fan, or even a consumer of important contemporary media, and does not read this comic is making a huge mistake, and doing themselves a grave disservice. King, Gerads and Cowles are interrogating this world - while still being respectful of Jack "The King" Kirby - digging into the core of New Genesis and Apokolips, planets ruled by gods and fuelled by the exploitation of slave armies to unearth the harsh realities of both. Tom King and Mitch Gerads are giving us Game of Thrones in space. I gotta repeat, this isn't just a stale rehash of the beef between New Genesis and Apokolips. This is a war. Three issues in, Mister Miracle is unquestionably one of the best books DC is currently publishing. This series continues to offer a fascinating glimpse into the mind of one very troubled god. While it seems that Tom King still wants to keep his cards close to the chest, this issue was interesting enough to get me back onboard the series.  Mitch Gerads great art helped matters and I am now back on the Mister Miracle trolley.  I just hope I can stay on for the remainder of the journey. Some sequences, however are not as strong. For example, the page where Mister Miracle climbs the crane would have been better told had Gerads used a vertical nine panel grid system, or simply three panels read from the bottom up. It is true that most readers would have started from the top but the page would have been more elegant. Such pages show the limits of the nine-panel grid. Breaking it into a three-panel vertical grid would have been better. It makes me worry that the nine-panel grid is being fetishized instead of used as an effective storytelling tool. Mister Miracle #3 was a disappointing read. King has the kernel of what could be a really interesting story. However, the execution is so poor that it ruins the potential of the story. The problem is exacerbated by the artwork in this issue. I would not recommend Mister Miracle to readers who are long time Jack Kirby fans. Nor would I recommend Mister Miracle #3 to long time Fourth World fans. I would not recommend Mister Miracle #3 to fans of mainstream super hero comics. A devastating opening monologue and accompanying visuals. Gerads' backgrounds are more intricate, with more vibrant colors than previous issues. A perfect single issue.

I just have no word to describe how great this series is. No words I can think of to define what this comic stirs inside me. It's just a perfect balance of everything. THe art is definitely the best I've seen in a comic, ever. The story is beautifully paced and includes humour, drama, action, emotions and often without actual dialogue! I love Tom King, but this series shines the most because of Gerads. If the 12 issues are like this, we are on board for a landmark in comic books history. I can't help but feel like how people must have felts while reading Watchmen when it came out. Just perfect.

In what really doesn't surprise me at all this is easily the best book I read this week. Some major developments happen here, I believe, and there's a "Christmas Story" that really sticks with you. If you're not following this series right now I really don't know what to tell you!

Incredible. Between King's storytelling and Gerads's illustrations, this book just *does it for me. It's captivating, dramatic, funny, sad, hopeful, and satisfying all in one comic. I look forward to Mr. Miracle each month, and it's always at the top of my pile when I sit down to read.

Without repeating what other's have said, this book is a wonderful piece of art. The characters' emotions are portrayed so perfect, that you easily feel what they are feeling. Being Scott is suffering.

Better than the last issue. What matters here is it feels like more is happening. Scott has become a bit more aware and worrisome and it is clear he is being taken for a ride. What isn’t clear is exactly how that’s happening. That’s not a bad thing, though, and once again I’m consoled by the fact that we have nine whole more issues to flesh this out. I think the pace we have now is alright. Art continues to be terrific.

So I liked the 1 even if it was dark. I didn't enjoy issue too. For making my mind I brought issue 3. And there I'm ... There is some good stuff, and stuff I really didn't like. For the part I love ... The art, even if sometime I have trouble to see if I read correctly the double page in waffle. I like to see Forager even if that make my head hurt. I have to remember this is a story not in the continuity, so this Forager isn't the one dead in Cosmic Odysey. And he isn't the one in "Bug ! Adventure of Forager" (Who is also out of continuity, like I tell my head hurt). I cope with Scott felling, and I love to see him with Barda (Damn I need something like that too !). But I don't like the part when Lighray kill or capture (Hard to tell) Forager, and how Orion treat Scott. I'm tired to him be a jerk. So I don't put my mind on if I will take issue 4. Will see ! more

It probably is a big deal that I am not familiar enough with the New Gods mythos/canon but this just did not fully connect with me which is also a responsibility of the storytelling. An annotated version would no doubt definitely improve the appreciation of the developments but probably should not factor into the first read rating. There are probably a lot of clues there. The art was okay. If this does end up to be some grand illusion/delusion then here's hoping the payoff reveal is great enough to make up for all the drama of these deaths that did not happen after all. I'll still check out next ish...

It keeps going in a worse direction to portray the disarray of Scott Free and his life going against his mental anguish in the face of Orion and Darkseid but It doesn't work for me. Mitch Gerards's art fits this well but it doesn't elevate the story for me but it's very good.
