This heavily character driven story is a must for Superman fans! While out of any particular continuity, it is essentially part of a longer Superman screenplay. This 100-page 4 chapter story is well worth finding, though I understand it is selling out at many stores. Hopefully it will get a second print or be added to some collection. It deserves to stay in print and available to fans who would like to read a really nice "behind the scenes" story about Clark Kent as he transitions to his more famous identity. I also appreciate that no attempt is made to shoehorn it into current DC continuity. It's a nice tale that stands on its own outside of the shackles of a continuity that changes fairly regularly anyway. This is highly recommended for all fans of the man behind the Superman. Marv Wolfman has created something truly special here. As I stated in the beginning, these are the types of Superman stories I love. This is who the Man of Steel is. He is a Kansas farm-boy who happened to be born light years away. He is a good MAN who has the powers of a god. Wolfman gives us all of this and wraps a heartwarming story of transition, growth, emerging super-villains and emerging super-heroes around it. Meanwhile, the impeccable artwork of Claudio Castellini brings this tale to life. The artwork is classic and timeless. It's impressive that this was written well over a decade ago because this Luthor very much feels like a villain of the moment. But as good as the supporting cast is, this is a story about Clark Kent becoming Superman, and realizing that he can carry these burdens on this back. And on that note, it's a definite win. Okay, wow. I love Marv Wolfman's old work a lot and my expectations for this were not high at all after seeing his recent work on the second Raven series, but Marv Wolfman may have had good reason to push for this to be published for so long. This story perfectly captures the feeling you want while reading a Superman story and though his origin stories are a dime a dozen, this is a very unique period of time for the book to take place and very well done. I dreaded this but quickly changed my mind.

Marv Wolfman said, this is the best Superman story he has ever written. I can assure you, it is. Have you ever heard of a writer say this? I have not. That urged me to pick this one up so anyone who is even slightly interested in Superman should read this. This is not the typical origin story of baby Kal-El - kid Clark Kent who eventually becomes Superman and save lives from there. This is the crucial moment of Clark Kent's life, these decisions change him forever, he becomes the man the world would remember. Wolfman really understands Superman and... Lois Lane. I loved the art, it is by far the best in terms of detailing. Wolfman himself said, Claudio Castellini poured his heart and soul into this. Some of you may think this is an exaggera tion of a review by a Superman fan, all you really gotta do is look for yourself. more

Minor spoilers: Clark's big 'Flying Man' story didn't work for me, because 1) did no one wonder How and IF Clark interviewed him? Wheres proof? Did he take a photo? No? Why not? And one paragraph of Supes explaining himself WITHOUT Clark asking where he's from, how he got his powers, etc., does NOzt a great reporter make. Also, when Clark destroyed those missile in his street clothes, why didn't The Flying Man' transform into The Naked Man?

Another origin story focussing on the first step of Clark as superman and as journalist. It was not bad, but not what I looked for. With the Superman Earth One in the catalog, I even not understand why doing this version. Cover - Could have be better than this, but I understand what they mean by doing this and the link. 1.5/2 Writing - It's really classic story. Appart the fact Clark screw up a lot at first nothing is new. 2/3 Arts - The arts is really good, but I find Lois not beautifull. In fact their is other femal character way more sexy than her in this. 3/3 Feeling - Not very interesting. 1/2

Some aspects of the story ring false. To start, Clark can find gold at the bottom of the ocean. He would never need money. Also, his confidence is too low for a man superior to any other person on Earth. Primitive story effort. Great art.

"We do what we do" I wasn't planning on checking this one out, but I'm kinda glad I did. It's nothing really groundbreaking or spectacular, just another retelling/reimaging of Clark's first days in Metropolis, but I'm a bit of a sucker for these type of stories. The story feels a bit old-school and it checks every mark in the Superman box. He flies, he saves people, he writes, he gets on Luthor's bad side. Some of the marks are also a bit on the silly side. Things like super-inhaling through the nose to change the trajectory of a falling ball or using super-breath to literally push people out of the way of a speeding truck. Those are very Superman things, but I would be lying if I said I want more of them in contemporary books. A ll in all, it was a fun reimaging. Marv Wolfman gives us a story with good dialogue that isn't "out of character" (something that folks love to point out these days) and the art gets the job done. more
