Put Hal Jordan and Barry Allen in the same book and you get magic. It's a winning formula. Adams' writing carries a throwback feel with handling a modern crisis. Overall, this isn't a bad issue, but it is easily the weakest team-up we've seen so far. That's frustrating given this should have been the strongest, especially if wedding bells are truly on the horizon, as Barry would logically be Hal's best man. Unfortunately, in this situation, he's not the best man at all. Maybe the upcoming Green Lantern/Flash team-up in issue #34 will be more fun. Read Full Review

Green Lantern #31 is the series most atmospheric issue in quite some time. Thanks to the larger Barry story its connected to, the issue has a distinct feel to it. Hals Green Lantern concerns are so totally in the background that its easy to follow even if a reader has missed other recent issues. A filler issue. I wasn't a big fan of the mob Hulk in this one. I must have missed how Barry lost his powers. I'm also not sure about the science of Hal "pushing" Barry into super speed. That doesn't make any sense, and then on top of that, he is out of his line of sight. So, it wouldn't work. Without Hal putting a shield around him, Barry's body would be ripped apart even if he were able to reach super speed without the speed force. So calling bullshit on that one. Why wouldn't Hal still apprehend the mob assassin that just tried to kill a police scientist? I like Adam's but his tendency of having the hero just let criminals escape because we're out of pages is really annoying. That guy should've been a cakewalk for Hal anyways.

Something is wrong with this book, and since Adams is usually a very strong, talented writer and has a great track record with both of these characters, I'm genuinely baffled by what's transpiring the last few months in this title. Ever since Adams restored the GL Corps to full strength, the title has floundered. I feel like he's simply killing time until issue 600 with this "Hal is upset by the Book of Oa visions" stuff. Hal is one of the most self-confident heroes around, so the notion that he doesn't know what to do seems extremely unlikely. Additionally, this issue shows him struggling to defeat street level thugs and mobsters while trying to protect Barry. It doesn't make any sense given he has the most powerful weapon at his disposa l, limited only by what his mind can conceive. These mobsters shouldn't make him even break a sweat. It's bad writing, and Montos' static artwork doesn't help much either. The fans deserve better from this book, and the sales are slipping more and more. I'm very worried for the future of this book. Let's hope the upcoming Kyle Rayner reset helps inject new life into things. more
