THE FLASH #46 tells a fascinating story about two refugees from a former timeline. It's a love letter to Geoff Johns' Hunter Zolomon issues. Fans of those books will be greatly pleased, but if you haven't read them, please do so before reading this issue. It'll make it less confusing and more enjoyable. I have truly enjoyed the past several issues of The Flash, and as a longtime fan, I am worried about what comes next for Barry and Wally, but I can't wait to see what Williamson and company have in store for us. This title has really hit its stride, banking on an emotional core and a nostalgic draw that Williamson executes extremely well. And how about that GORGEOUS variant cover from Mattina? This issue may just be a prelude, and parts of it certainly seem like obvious stretching of story to fill a certain amount of space, but Williamson still manages to skillfully build tension for the coming arc, showing the madness of Zoom and the deteriorating, but still strong, relationship between Barry and Wally. As much as I continue to be on the fence about Zoom, the end of this issue makes me curious to see what he has planned for Flash War and how his plans affect the world of Barry and Wally. Scott Kolins, who drew much of Geoff Johns' run on The Flash that introduced Zoom, proves the perfect artistic partner to Williamson's script. The artwork suffers somewhat from the inks being a bit thin and the colors being a bit bright. Still, this is a solid issue that sets the stage for Flash War well enough. Read Full Review

Flash #46 is undoubtedly among the best issues of this comic to come out recently, and, hopefully, this bodes well for Flash War. The Flash War looms in the not-so-distant future, and while I'm eager to see how this event will affect the DCU, I can't say that this issue does much by generating excitement. At this point, what's happening with Wally West is working well, but that's about it. Read Full Review

Next up is the Flash War and I can't wait.  I can't say this prelude pumped me up more, but it didn't ruin my enthusiasm.  Plus, we get some intriguing things going on with Wally that I can't wait for Williamson to develop more.  The art was up and down, but in the end, this is a decent issue of The Flash. A very good story about Wally ... Well so why Barry take all the spot in there. Yes it's his title. But I find it a little sad. Even Zoom take more place than Wally in all this. I would have loved seen more than one version of Cyborg old shape. Cover - I like it, it's in link. 2/2 Writing - It was very quick for the "Remember who Hunter is" but that work fine. The wally havoc was hard to follow (But maybe I just jump in). 2/3 Arts - I like Kollins (I would really love have is level), but I find it to distant ... His style didn't succeed to make me care. 2.5/3 Feeling - It give me the need to find more about the Flash War. 2/2

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. We open with an intro to Hunter Zolomon and we reintroduce one of Wally’s greatest foes. Zolomon was to Wally as Eobard was to Barry. Since we’ve started Rebirth, as well as New 52 (to my knowledge) Zolomon has not been in comics. We figure out that Eobard ripped Hunter from the time stream long ago and placed him in the 25th century where Eobard grew up so the two of them could plan and organize a way to make the Flash’s understand pain, which would make them better heroes. Turns out, everything we’ve seen with Eobard this past year (or more) had Zolomo n working behind the scenes organizing and pulling the strings to change both Flashes at least until Eobard wen off the reservation. Eobard ran off because he couldn’t wait anymore to get back at Barry so he ran off to do it on his own. That’s the part of the story we know from this past year. Needlessly say, Eobard is now dead and Hunter is going to set up a war to get Wally and Barry to understand their purpose and to make them better heroes. I like the idea of reintroducing Hunter Zolomon, especially with Wally as the focus and not Barry. But I just have a hard time believing that Hunter Zolomon was secretly working with Eobard this entire time. Obviously, it’s a retcon and I understand that, but it just doesn’t seem believable to me. Also, who are these other Rogues? We saw them once about a year ago now (not sure) and I’m supposed to believe that they went through time and “made the Rogues look bad”.... at least that’s how I took it. This just all seems odd to me. Why discredit the Rogues? I loved the last issue. I love that Wally and Iris remember everything. I love that Hunter Zolomon is being reintroduced to continuity... to a degree.... but I think it’s the way this is all happening. more

It just seems off to me. I’m still excited for Flash War but I want to see how the pieces will all fit together. I thought Williamson’s run was a big build up from Day 1 to Grodd trying to heal himself and steal the speed force. The idea was cool but the end wasn’t executed well to me. It wrapped up quick for what... Hunter Zolomon? And that’s what I hope doesn’t happen here.

Was Zolomon planned or just thrown in recently? Even the connections to King’s Batman were a nice touch to show continuity and location of these events in the time stream, as well the source wall breaking. I love when continuity can be pulled together like that. I always give extra bonus points for that! Let’s see how Flash War kicks off before I can give my definitive opinion on this arc. For right now, I’m in but not as much as I was last issue.

Solid issue with good writing, that makes a really nice and interesting set-up for the upcoming Flash War. Josh Williamson makes Wally's struggle with conflicting memories believable and sad. And Barry just can't stand not being able to help. My only problem with this issue is the art. Characters and their facial expressions look really awkward in some panels and overall the art detracts from the story instead improving upon it. But nevertheless I can't wait for Flash War. Zoom is going to make a mess out off some speedsters lives.
