Detective Comics #990

This issue fully realizes the potential of a Two-Face story that fans would hope for. The story by Robinson saunters somewhere between action packed thriller and crime procedural while remembering to tell a good story. The art by Segovia is simply flawless, as each panel could be a poster. Overall, an entertaining issue that fans will love to re-read. Read Full Review

As it is teased in the publisher's summary, it appears as though Two-Face has 'teamed up' with the Dark Knight for the time being in order to face a greater evil that threatens Gotham City. Detective Comics #990 is a mysterious exploration into the psychology of Two-Face as well as Batmans relentless desire to find Harvey Dent within the chaos. The use of mystery and drama along with a few twists make it one of the best issues in the arc! Read Full Review

Segovia's art is really good. I liked all of the action beats in this issue and they would have had more dramatic tension if the characters didn't dismiss or diminish what I am seeing on the page. Not a lot of exposition in this issue but a quick read as the action flows and the panels with great art are the highlights of this issue. Not to say nothing happens, We get one step closer to finding out Two-Faces motivation and Batman seems to know what's coming up even if the reader doesn't. Deface the Face suffers from trying to cover a lot of ground. Its solution to a lot of the narrative questions is to throw most stuff into the mix and see if it works. Ultimately, this approach leaves it a bit muddied in its intent and execution. Read Full Review

Its still a little for me to really judge this new arc, the past few issues were very enjoyable. However, it feels like back to back filler. Which slows my enthusiasm to find out what's going on. Filler needs to be captivating in my opinion, otherwise its just dissatisfying build up which is what we've got the last two issues of the series. Read Full Review

Detective Comics #990 continues the "Deface the Face" story arc. I'm not a fan of this story so far or its depiction of Batman.  This Version of Batman is a bit too arrogant and snarky. It seems that James Robinson does not have a good grasp of the character and it doesn't appear that this is the same Batman that is being written across the line. This speaks more to the editing of the series than the writer.  This Two-Face also seems weird. He blames Gordon for the current situation but turns around and saves him later in the issue.  There's not much else going on here. I read it in about 5 minutes and aside from some great art in spots by Stephen Segovia and Ivan Plascencia the book isn't really worth the cover price.  I'm st ill way behind on Detective Comics. I hope that James is the fill-in writer because the series has taken a huge step back in recent issues.  more

Art was okay and the dialogue was ok at best. Glad we are seeing more of the Signal unfortunately during half of the issue I was a bit lost. I was not too impress with the cliffhanger on the previous issue and even less with this weeks. Feel like we are missing a few pages.

Not a strong issue, but not a bad one either. It just lacks proper narrative leading somewhere, which makes it look and feel like a filler, for the very most part. I have to say, I'm not impressed, and feel the entire story may have been so much better. Previous chapters were, after all.

Not very good. It's the dialogue. No one sounds right. That seems to be a common trope in Robinson's writing.
