DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd

Detective Comics #1011 is another winner from this creative team. This title works so well because it is not mimicking the portrayal of the character in Tom King's current run on Batman. This Batman is every bit in control of his emotions and senses. He is balanced and effective. It's a portrayal of Batman that makes Batman relatable and understandable. It's a Batman that isn't a borderline sociopath. The references to DC's war comics enhance the experience, as well. Read Full Review

Forces Of Geek - Lenny Schwartz

The rest of the issue does have some talky scenes. It does however lead to a nice ending that relates itself to the Mr. Freeze story that Tomasi seems to be building to. I'm intrigued to see where he takes us from here. For now, this is another satisfying issue in a run by a solid and a bit underrated comic book writer. Read Full Review

Lyles Movie Files - Jeffrey Lyles

Is this a major story with lasting repercussions in the Batman universe? No, but it's a great example of how a writer can put Batman in a strange setting and have a lot of fun making it work this well. With the tease of the next arc's villain, Batman looks to be in for a chilly reception when he returns to Gotham. Read Full Review

    Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield

The epilogue, involving Mr. Freeze putting his plot to resurrect Nora into effect, was a reminder that we're in the middle of an event but little more, but this arc showed off Tomasi's writing at its best and emphasized that sometimes the best thing you can do for a Batman story is to upend what you'd expect and throw him in the deep end of a new situation. Comics Bookcase - Alex Batts

Tomasi has a strong grip on the Caped Crusader, and the change of scenery in this arc was exciting. The art continues to be a highlight of the book, especially in this satisfying conclusion of an escapade caused by Deadshot. Read Full Review

Artist Christian Duce and colorist Luis Guerrero to a lovely job bringing the battle between Deadshot and Bats to life as well, but Clarence and Hiro clearly steal the show. Read Full Review

What the book lacks in compelling and sort of camply storytelling, it makes up for in amazing art and direction in spades. This entire arc is worth reading simply for that alone, especially if you happen to love the skirmishes between the Dark Knight and the Man Who Never Misses. As we gear up for the real Year of the Villain confrontation, this was a fantastic slight detour. Read Full Review

When it's all said and done, I'm ready for something more substantial from Tomasi's Detective Comics. I'm ready for that sweeping five-seven issue arc where Batman faces a villain that he's not able to beat with stuff he found out of an old fighter jet. I'm ready for more interactions with Robin. I'm ready for Mr. Freeze to enter the fray, and I hope it's as chilling as the codas portend. Read Full Review

You can do a lot worse than some solid comics storytelling, which Peter Tomasi always delivers. Even for an arc that could have been trimmed up a bit, this issue still delivered as an enjoyable slice of entertainment. Aside from a few odd coloring choices, it's a strikingly gorgeous book, and was a nice The Brave and the Bold-style throwback adventure. Read Full Review

On Comics Ground - Travis Tucker

Tomasi has a very good way of keeping Detective Comics dynamic. It's always switching from action-packed to informative and this book was genuinely just entertaining. All the references and the showing of mortal enemies becoming friends came together really well for a fulfilling read. Read Full Review
