Overall, DC VS. VAMPIRES #5 continues to show just how simple yet dynamically clever this story is. Due to its Elseworld nature, it's a book cluttered with everyone's favorite DC COMICS heroes and villains either being killed or turned into bloodsucking Vampires. What's not to like? There isn't a superhero showdown fight comic on shelves as good as DC vs. Vampires. It takes everything we love about these characters and drops them into the impossible scenario of having to go against your friends because they drink blood and serve a new evil purpose. Sucks to be Batman, but it's great fun to see him take on these godlike heroes. Read Full Review

Schmidt delivers some beautiful art in the issue and the visuals are stunning. What makes them work really well is the stylistic differences between the different stories. Read Full Review

DC vs. Vampires #5 is another solid issue of a series that keeps surprising. The action is great. The paranoia keeps building and the end of this issue delivers a little sadness as well. But, overall, the comic is a hell of a lot of fun you can easily get lost in and want to see what's next. Read Full Review

    Comic Watch - Dustin Gebel

With the book moving closer to its halfway point, DC vs. Vampires remains one of the most consistent and pulpy books on the shelves. The issue makes an interesting artistic detour with Di Meo exploring the Suicide Squads reaction to the vampiric invasion. The alternating styles feel like two puzzle pieces that just barely lock in together, and itll be curious to see if they end up linking more in future issues. Read Full Review

It's never a great sign when a maxiseries starts making creative team changes midway through. Even if everyone involved is highly talented, it never bodes well for consistency. Otto Schmidt is joined this issue by Simone Di Meo, and while both artists are excellent, their style doesn't quite mesh. Read Full Review

DC Vs. Vampires #5 is a down issue in a great series.  You'll have those now and again, but at least this sets up what should be a banger next issue.  Fight scenes dominate the issue, and unfortunately, the art makes a lot of what's going on hard to decipher.  This is still one of my favorite books coming out right now, but this issue was a bit disappointing. DC Vs. Vampires #5 continues to boast some stunning artwork but threatens to fall into a convention that's plagued a majority of DC's titles. I hope that future issues will include more heroes, as the vampires now have an advantage in numbers, and the series is about to hit its halfway point. Read Full Review

Lyles Movie Files - Jeffrey Lyles

    Feb 22, 2022

It's about time for Tynion and Rosenberg to give the vampires a major loss. They've been too ahead of the heroes and carving through them to the point the book is running the risk of getting boring. Given this premise that's the last emotion readers should be feeling. Read Full Review

I wish I didn't like this. I don't like the JLA being so utterly stupid and slow. But at least this series does (for a rare change) actually write the character of The Batman with understanding and conviction. I do hope to see Dr. Fate teaming up with the Caped Crusader soon. They are the team needed the most here. Will Big Blue be turned? Pfui. If so, The Batman will have a kryptonite stake with his name on it. Because that is what The Batman does. Defeat Evil. Period. It doesn't matter he doesn't have any "super-powers" - he has the human mind and human drive to fight against impossible odds. It is who and what he always has been. When you wonder why there are so many Batman stories? That's why. Even though, most of them in more

After a couple of what were to me weak issues this one hooked me completely. Loved the misdirection and paranoia and how all the plots are starting to converge. Batman and Green Arrow think they'e got things figured out but can't be sure, Oliver missing Hal's heart is a highlight and while I didn't really like how WW was turned into a vampire she's a delightful villain in this issue and loved who she takes Bruce down a peg. Both artists do a good job, Di Meo takes clues from over-the-top blockbuster stuff which works well for the SS parts and Schmidt nails the claustrophobic-yet-colorful parts of the Batcave. Snappy-dialogue, entertaining characters, misdirection, creative action and a horror-movie vibe is exactly what this series needs more

I am not the biggest DC, but this elseworlds tale has been amazing. Right up there with dark knights of steel for me. My personal favorite issue thus far.

I really enjoyed this one. I think Simone Di Meo's art is kind of a miss for this sort of series. It fits, you know, Space Gods over in We Only Find Them When They're Dead. It doesn't work as well for the Suicide Squad. Despite that, everything else works. This series is so much fun.

It's funny to see Batman running away, just love it. And the action was very cool, just don't like the Task Force X's part, couldn't understand almost anything by the drawing.
