We've barely started this event and the treachery's running high. Some figures that both Bat and Cat believed to be trustworthy may not be, and with every member of the extended family picking a side, I'd say that Catwoman #57 has lit the spark under the characters to take the "Gotham War from great to truly unforgettable. Catwoman #57 is the start of the possible turn around the entire Gotham War storyline needed. The story still feels rushed but the introduction of Vandal Savage was a much-needed addition to the story. Hopefully Gotham War focuses more on the strengths shown in Catwoman #57 moving forward. Catwoman #57 is a mixed bag that works as a solid Catwoman story but fails to deliver on the premise of "Gotham War." Howards writing is like a Swiss watch that struggles to capture the explicit tone found in the Batman-led issues. The heist sequences and high society beats are the most natural from the issue and the art channels that sense of fluidity to similar effect. The art also finds itself trapped in that conflicted atmosphere, as the anatomy of Batman feels in sharp contrast to what is on display in Batman. The issue is a disappointing follow-up to a strong opening set of issues, and hopefully, the book can return to the established premise and continue to explore the off-kilter Batman and Catwoman. This comic is integrally tied to an awful event and even if it wasn't, it would still be a pretty weak issue. It's low on content and makes a few moves with characters that throw me off regardless the context of the overall plot. The high points would be the art and some of the better moments of dialogue but neither of these things are particularly impressive either. In the end this is the best The Gotham War has to offer so far and that's unfortunate. Read Full Review

Here we are again with a bunch of people over-hating on Tini Howard for whatever reason. That's all I'll say about that. As for the issue itself, I must say that I felt as though it was the weakest issue of the Gotham War crossover so far. I might have given this a 6.5 initially, but I really enjoyed how Howard wrote Nightwing and I also liked the twist at the end of the issue. Hopefully this is just a minor bump in the road for Gotham War, as I've enjoyed it as a whole thus far.

It felt a bit slower and a bit messier than previous parts, but it wasn't horrible or worst issue ever. Just... mediocre.

Pros: the twist. The conversation with Nightwing. Leon’s art. Cons: Howard’s characterization of red hood. Howard still overwrites. She needs to scale back the dialogue/exposition/internal monologues. every issue I read by her feels like it drags a bit.

At least this issue wasn't awful. I am still disliking this entire Gotham War storyline and once again they say that Batman is unhinged because he disagrees with them. Horrible dialogue, inauthentic character voices, reads like filler despite being part of a short event. The ridiculousness of the plot and gross mischaracterization makes it impossible to take this issue, and every other issue of this garbage event, seriously. I liked the interaction between Dick and Selina, but this issue is boring and (as Dick points out) stupid. If you're going to have a clash of ideologies you can't do it by subtracting 50 IQ points from every character involved. It needs to be believable. also lol @ the tini howard simp with an average score of 8.2. With amazing quality like that I can't imagine why comics are selling so poorly!

Poor writing and bad characterization - a Howard default - continues full force in this feature. It hurts to have Selina's character destroyed in this way in this event. Faced with issues like this, I understand why people stop reading comic books.
