Apex Lex Luthor's first run-in with the Infected didn't go as planned, and the Batman Who Laughs' influence is continuing to spread. Some of the panels, especially the ones with multiple characters, felt a bit rushed and lacking the detail that we get from a lot of today's best works. It may be a one-off thing, or maybe I'm just not a fan of Romita Jr. in 2020, but it was a little off-putting to not be able to tell if Superman was floating in the sky above Lex Luthor or if Superboy was. From what I've seen of readers' reactions I can't figure why Bendis is writing both Superman titles. I also can't see why after almost 2 decades an old favorite Dan Jurgens was back at writing a Superman title, with Peter Tomasi, another great writer on the other one, but in 2 years both were pushed out for a Marvel writer with no Superman expertise. Now we've spent 2 years subjected to a Superman gone Marvel, using plot-twisting gimmicks to sell issues and worse, with stories that drag on and on like a Soap Opera. Hey Bendis, Ever think of submitting a script for one of those? You'd be a great writer for it.

Just a mess with a bunch of forced characters and plots. John Romita's art is usually hit or miss. We got a miss here.

Prelude: I'm tired, let's just get this done. The Good: Nope. The Bad: JRJR. Dialogue. Continuity with Clark and Conner. Hang on, one of these panels is #1012's cover. No seriously, JRJR. Leviathan. Conclusion: What do you think? Horrible art, plus your usual Bendis problems but to the max degree.

Hey, remember how Young Justice already had a first visit to the Hall of Justice before? Remember how Superboy Conner Kent and "The Duck" have already interacted and have history with Superman? bendis clearly does not. 1/10 this issue fails. It gets worse by the page. Some of the other failings are: The dialogue - Sinestro's "I don't read Earth, Luthor", I mean honestly there is bad and there's bendis. Leviathan - They claim he "almost took the World", could have fooled me with the lackluster so-called "event". Then there's his turn into a generic villain and now his turn into someone against them too, I mean I doubt he poses a threat to Perpetua's folk or even those of Laugh-Bats.

This story feels like it's going nowhere. Every single Bendis book feels like a rehash of another Bendis book. I feel like we've seen Young Justice do this like twelve times now, and I know we haven't, but everything blends together into a godawful mess. And on top of that, John Romita Jr's art is abysmal. All those action pages may as well have been 60s Batman onomatopoeia. I couldn't really tell you how panels connected or what was happening. This is an atrocious issue. I hope this series sheds readers fast.

Honestly, WTF??! The art is horrible, in some parts it's rough sketches or outlines of characters. I could draw better than that when I was in grade school. It's not a style, it's a serous lack of talent. I don't care who his father was John Romita Jr is a hack collecting a pay day at this point. As for the story, if you can call that it is little more than Bendis shoehorning in all his failed attempts at new characters in there...On top of that you have Bendis making an anti-Capitalist dig on the last page which is needless. Over all another garbage Action Comics issue that won't improve until a new team is put on the book.
