  Amazing. I just got around to reading this series and it's probably the best book to come out of 2016, vision maybe tied with it. I've never seen a writer tackle mental health issues so clearly and in such amazing fashion, not making it demeaning or look adverse but rather treating it as a problem and going through steps to solve it. Without giving spoilers the story revolves around Moon Knight, aka Mark Spector (? Because he's had many different identities), struggling with dissociative identity disorder in a mental hospital. Lemire really makes Spector a likable character in this series, displaying his tragic story from his youth all the way through to his origins. The art is also beautiful throughout this entire book, my recommendat ion would be to get his deluxe hardcover, it needs to be owned in oversized editions, because the colorist, penciller, and inker all need to be praised. The way the art changes throughout the series to show what state of mind Spector is in is just a marvel to behold. Overall I couldn't find anything really big to even complain about, the smallest complaint would be someone not familiar with Moon Knights history would be utterly confused, but a simple Wikipedia search will get them caught up.   Lemire's best Marvel work and among his best work of any sort. And remember, Marc Spector is Jewish and this matters to his story!

  As someone who's really only read Moon Knight from Huston onward, this is THE definitive modern take on the character. I don't think any of the runs I've read have handled Marc's dissociative identity disorder with such a deft touch. Lemire tells a story of accepting oneself, flaws and all, that feels particularly fitting for Moon Knight. The reconciliation between each of Marc's personalities in the final two issues was a real highlight, as the various versions of Moon Knight coalesce to rescue Marc at his lowest point. This kind of organic, natural character growth is so rare in cape comics and should be celebrated. The way Lemire was able to organically integrate so many great artists and their wildly different styles took the book to another level too. Greg Smallwood took the lead for most of the issues and damn is he just a superstar level talent. His layouts throughout the book are eye-catching. The way he worked panels into a variety of shapes, from sound effects to exclamation points really added a lot to the reading experience. And when paired with a murderer's row of guest artists, like James Stokoe who handled the "Knight of the Moon," and Francavilla, who's Jake Lockley dripped with 70's influence, every page shined. more

  This run plays with elements from the original Moench run a lot. It'd probably be interesting to go back and read that run, just to see how Lemire played with it. Also, Smallwood's art in this run is fantastic, and it's crazy to see just how much he progressed as an artist from his first turn as a Moon Knight artist in 2013, to this in 2016. That might be worth checking out as well, if you're interested in seeing an artist's growth.

  You're talking the stuff he did with Brian Wood? I read just the Ellis/Shalvey stuff a couple weeks ago but I'll add the rest to my Marvel U list. I remember there being a bit of a drop off after those two left but it's been years since I've read it. Smallwood's growth from the Lemire MK run to Human Target with King has been super impressive too. His faces have gotten even more expressive, the pop art colors he's working with are amazing, and he's still killing it on the layouts.
