Adam Strange is the hero of Rann, a man famous throughout the galaxy for his bravery and honor. After leading his adopted home to victory in a great planetary war, Adam and his wife Alanna retire to Earth, where they are greeted by cheers, awards, and parades. But not all is as happy and nice as it seems, as the decisions Adam made during battles on Rann come back to haunt his family and threaten the entire DC Universe. Now his fate rests in the hands of one of his fellow heroes, Mr. Terrific, who must choose between saving Adam or the world. Collects Strange Adventures #1-12.

Strange Adventures (2021) by Tom King, Mitch Gerads and Evan Shaner (DC) King tackles another long-standing relatively unsung DC character and deconstructs them for a modern audience. It's another DC "Black Label" project (similar to Elseworlds) which tends to exist outside normal DC continuity. My previous exposure to Adam Strange was mostly limited to the 2004 series by Andy Diggle & Pascal Ferry (4.8 on Amazon). While some readers may already have strong feelings about Tom King or even Adam Strange, regardless, Strange Adventures deserves recognition as a masterful venture within the genre. The series showed up on the "best of" lists for the Washington Post, Variety, and Entertainment Weekly. It received 2021 Eisner nominations more

Another King/Gerads masterpiece this time joined by Shaner's beautiful art, too. Again, King captures human emotion and nature brilliantly with twists that make it a page-turner to the end. Mr. Terrific's supporting role is powerful and effective throughout. Using the two artists' work to represent the two time periods of the story is an excellent device to keep the reader knowing what's happening as the story phases back and forth. Outstanding read.
