X-Force #9

Benjamin Percy and Joshua Cassara deliver another incredible issue of X-Force. I have not been this into a comic book series in such a long time. The way Percy understands these characters touches every part of my heart that loves the X-Men. He just gets them. Thank you so much for putting Sage in the spotlight again. There's so much to unpack with Domino alone, much less Black Tom and Wolverine as well. It's a thrilling ride that's playing the long game on every front, developing countries and opposing forces that could be troublesome for years to come. It's back to work for X-Force, but facing a threat which apparently was not fully dealt with before. X-Force #9 was the full package for the shock, the character development, asking the right questions about the direction of this team, and once more giving us a story where these mutants are doing the work that no one else can handle in their position. Joshua Cassara does some amazing work in this issue. The Krakoan interludes look fantastic as well as the characters. The jungle scenes are lush and beautiful and the action is filled with energy. Read Full Review

X-Force #9 does a lot of nice character work while also bringing some chickens home to roost from earlier issues. Percy does a lot of heavy lifting in this issue in the best possible way, moving the story along nicely, while also doing some great character work. Joshua Cassara and Dean White's art looks great, adding to the whole thing. Life in the mutant CIA is tough for everyone, and this issue does a great job of illustrating that. Read Full Review

X-Force 9 is a true return to form by Percy and Cassara. The tone is a lot happier as the issue opens with a party on Krakoa. Domino is in a much better state mentally, Scott and Jean are flirting, and Logan is bonding with Daken and Gabby in a hilarious yet disgusting way (Krakoan roulette!). Logan, Quentin, and Domino are dispatched to Terra Verde and discover that the palace of the president has been overrun by telefloronics. Enter: Black Tom. Great issue with stunning art and, unlike some Dawn of X comics, real and interesting villains.

This book along the main X book is all I need. This is fantastic with consistently great artwork and a nearly guaranteed good time every issue thanks to Percys consistency. Nothing really not to like here, I felt the big bad coming up could be a bit more interesting and less generic but still a great time. Cover is ugly. Inside is some of the best art out right now.

Prelude: X-Force has been one of my favourite Dawn of X titles, let's see how it does in this issue. The Good: Ooh we're getting into some Resurrection Protocols stuff here and the dangers of it. I like it. The infographics were interesting as well. Still enjoying Cassara's art. The violence of this issue continues to set itself apart. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: Another great issue from Percy. I've been loving X-Force and this issue continues that trend.

For me, the unsettling undercurrents on Krakoa are more interesting than the "fighting an Olmec plant-god" field story. Jean's growing unease; Domino being resurrected happy-go-lucky despite *explicitly* instructing Colossus to keep her pain intact; the cheerful, amoral violence at the Green Lagoon -- something's rotten in the state of Krakoa, and this title is our widest window into it.

Seeing the mutants take care of each other is nice. I never really cared about Sage, but I am liking Percy's take on her. The same goes for Kid Omega and Black Tom. Joshua Cassara's art is another highlight.

A nice amount of interesting stuff going on here. First of all, I continue to enjoy the dynamic between Wolverine and Kid Omega. I also liked seeing them travel to South America with Domino. Bringing up Domino, though, brings me to one of the most interesting things about this issue. I'm really hoping what happened during her resurrection comes up again later, as it appears Domino has been resurrected without her memories of her pain, even though her dying request to Colossus was for the opposite. Plus, I also just found Beast a little unsettling while reading this. There wasn't anything big or noticeable that he did here, but I think my perspective on him changed a lot after Issue 6. Oh yeah, it's also great to have Cassara back on the art duties. more

"I couldn't possibly have had anything to do with this" Those Krakoan mutants. Those folks definitely know how to party and Percy again delivers a solid issue of X-Force. Just never play spin the bottle with them.
