Wolverine: Infinity Watch #5

Overall Duggan, MacDonald, and Bellaire bring life to an interesting team-up (Wolverine, Loki, and an ex-con) and give readers a story with a little bit of action, cosmic adventure, and just enough funny to keep your attention throughout the series entirety.  This was a nice mini-series that renewed my interest for anything with the Infinity tag for now. Wolverine Infinity Watch #5 goes in an entirely different direction than the ending of the last issue. It builds the character of Hector more than over the previous four chapters, but it sort of comes out of nowhere. Its an exciting way to end the series, but its so abrupt that it might leave readers a bit cold, because, for the majority of the series, Duggan has been playing with Loki and Wolverine. Andy MacDonalds art is good, but he could use more work in his character acting for the most part. All in all, this is a satisfying ending, even if it does come out of the left field. Wolverine: Infinity Watch has been bad from the start, and issue five is no exception. Duggan's execution has been completely wrong, the characters are thrown together for the heck of it, and the story ultimately proves to be completely meaningless. This last issue gives the impression that the creators are discovering, right alongside the readers, that their series had no protagonist and (almost) no point. I enjoyed the goofier parts of the romp, but this conclusion really underlines the shaggy-dog-ness of the story.

A disappointing ending to a pointless series. Duggan's cosmic stories have been getting worse and worse, at least it seems like this is finally the end.
