Overall, WAY OF X #3 was deeper and more thought-provoking even with its Christian undertones. Yet, it still lacks substance towards the overall development of the story. I left the issue wondering what readers really garnered from the issue. That said, WAY OF X wasnt bad by any stretch. Still, anyone searching for plot development and direction may come up a bit short. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - David Harth

    Jun 23, 2021

Way of X #3 takes an interesting approach with the Hellfire Gala in that it barely even shows it. Spurrier knows he has to do something with it, but he uses it as set dressing for the story he's trying to tell in this book, which was the right thing to do. It all works out very well, and this book is a pretty good read. Quinn's art is solid but not great, and it works well enough. This is almost like the anti-crossover crossover issue, and it's fun for that reason. Read Full Review

Way of X #3 takes a soft right turn away from the Onslaught problem to explore the politics of sex and reproduction. While interesting (and occasionally amusing) in isolation, this issue feels more like an aside from the imminent threat building since the first issue. Read Full Review

    COMICON - Tony Thornley

    Jun 29, 2021

Spurrier, unfortunately, writes Kurt Wagner " one of the most sexually open and understanding characters in X-canon " with extremely puritanical attitudes about sex and intimacy. It's so far out of character, especially for the elf who has multiple times been shown on panel wearing nothing but a stuffed animal version of himself. Read Full Review

If there is a series where Marvel has the bets, it is the Symbiote and this series. All a plot with elements bravely taken in the style of Marvel. Religion, society, conspiracy incredibly orchestrated with a solid art.

It continues to remain solid with each installment, a subject that may be delicate but necessary is sex as a manipulation tool and of course it is widely used in religions and sects. It is the castration of don't do or the opposite point of debauchery to control people. Kurt seems more and more lost in the drink, apparently this place has started to affect him. A great, avant-garde development for comics and that is what Marvel has had, it goes a step forward touching delicate, but necessary topics.

With this issue, I now fully understand why Namor continues to brush off Xavier's & Magneto's overtures to him about joining Krakoa. They have NO IDEA what they are doing and how to build a nation and focus on the what the nation actually needs. This issue nails the tragedy that will be Krakoa....

" Still, there is a certain strength in guest good, be the allies or otherwise, to note that we're as disciplined as we're dangerous. For this reason I remember you of the three laws enshrined in Krokoan nationhood. Remember: You ambition. My friends, tonight the world is watching. Let us give them a spectacle of our design." -Profesor X - This story is still one of my favorites, although this number was not so much. It's still deep, mutants are human and make the same mistakes if the bow that the arrow shoots is not strong enough.

This issue was so fucking good. I loved it. I think this is the type of stuff Si Spurrier should be known for. Super smart concepts and writing that fits perfectly in the larger narrative, while still having a broader point.

I really loved this issue, as I thought it was the best one so far. Everything just clicked with me here. Nightcrawler's drunken actions during the Hellfire Gala was a fun few pages, but I especially enjoyed his visit to the Bower and the, sort of, exploration of the first Krakoan law. Plus, I found the way Legion tried to help Mercury and Loa very intriguing, even if it was just done to lure out Onslaught. The ending with Doctor Nemesis and Dazzler was nice as well, but I do think it could have been handled a bit better. Regardless of that, this issue was pretty awesome.

Issue three of Way of X was pretty good. The series is getting better with each new issue, the art is still fun, and the writing really captures you and makes you feel invested with these character. Especially for Kurt, and his goals for the mutants of Krakoa. I'm interested in seeing where this story ends up, and I am not reading any of the other XMEN titles. Hopefully you don't need to to understand what is going on.

If you were to tell me that Stacey-X was going to be in this issue I would have rolled my eyes and asked "but why?" After reading it, however, I have my answer. Rather than take Joe Casey's or Chuck Austen's (the real pretender) route, Spurrier writes her as a multi-dimensional character that isn't an overly sexualized incel's dream girl. Way of X is a complicated story, but an extremely important one in the Krakoa narrative.

There's a very strong sense of helplessness this time around. Nightcrawler's scrambling to try and make some spiritual sense around Krakoa's way of life, while a threat is appearing from within. Some people are doing better than others and it looks like Kurt can learn from them. Also some of the people who languished in the change in status quo are starting to question it. The way Pixie tries to keep healthy boundaries around stuff is refreshing after dabbling in some of the earlier deviancy that made mutants a little reckless. Plus Legion tries to multitask while doing everything I said.

A new society that apparently does not know where it is going, something similar to let's made babies for the war, Mmh where will I have heard it. It seems that one of the few people with common sense is Stacy X, she is supplying the mutants with prophylactics. Mutants far from building a strong society are reproducing irresponsibly many of them, abandoned babies without someone to love or care for them, that will not be a good community in the future. The terrible way that Legion uses the intimacy of the girls is horrible and despicable. An excellent complicated story told through fluid narrative and exceptional art.

This series continues to show the ugly side of Krakoa all the shiny new planet bringer won't tell you about. And its really good. Lots of things to discuss about this issue and a lot of topics many writers shy away from. When the dust settled on this era things like this are going to be what makes or breaks it. The X Men are doing things beyond ambitious and I havent seen it from any other corner of this universe let alone the Distinguished Competition.

After he embarrasses himself at the Gala, Kurt nurses a hangover and catches a heap of world-building from Stacy X. I appreciate the world-building -- and the impeccable theme-building -- and Legion supplies some welcome initiative in his Onslaught-hunt. But the Stacy X thing has just a little too much artifice; the hand of the author snapping story ideas into place like Lego blocks is too visible. This is still a very good comic, but that artifice is why I hesitate to call it great.

Unquestionably this was the comic of the week, despite touching controversial issues, we see that the mutants are now making a new life away from the home that saw them born, it is not the first time and Magnus has done it and it ended in a complete disaster. Maybe they'll make it this time. Way of X mainly touches on the subject of religion, a subject where there is a lot of thread to weave. The delivery felt a slight deceleration compared to the previous ones, but it is still good for me.
