Wakanda Forever: X-Men #1

Malice finds Storm, Rogue, and Nightcrawler at an African grocery store and ruins everyone's night. Drum in hand, Malice stirs up trouble in Brooklyn and our 3 Dora Milaje make their way to join the fight as well. Some twists and turns later, another hero joins as we are about to wrap up this story in the next issue. How are we going to resolve the catastrophe Malice has wrought? X-Men: Wakanda Forever #1 worsens the comics premise, focusing even more on Nakias pitiable villain motivation and her hatred of women which TChalla loves. The artwork doesnt get any better either. Once again, I cant recommend this miniseries. Give it a pass. Read Full Review

Of the three stories this one is the weakest. It introduces a solid take on storm and the X-Men. Nothing about the characters sounds off so Okorafor has done her background work. This part 2 is really setting up the next story which again is not worth the 5 dollars but I enjoyed it.

The story is a little better than the first issue with Spider-man but it's not really good. Cover - The connecting variant. Nice & Related. 2/2 Writing - I didn't like it. 1/3 Arts - The arts is good even if I don't like Nakia look. 2.5/3 Feeling - Not like it at all. 0/2

Nakia loses control of the Mimic after throwing it at Storm. In the first issue, I missed the fact that this story is aimed at younger, less sophisticated readers, but it's clearer here. Both the dialogue and the characterization are simplistic, but in a welcoming, well-calculated way. The art is turbulent; it shows some flashes of greatness but also some unfortunate weaknesses. Nakia's characterization and her driving role in the plot get problematic. I agree with Bethany Pope at Comic Watch that there are troubling gender issues in play. (I'm not fully sold on her contention that Nakia's portrayal demonizes her for "owning her own sexuality," though.) I question the wisdom of doing an "obsessive love made her EEEVIL" story for youn g readers in 2018. And Nakia's motivation forces the whole story (and the characters!) to orbit around T'Challa - a shape it absolutely did not have to take. But the story's not over yet, and I'm faintly optimistic about the final issue's odds of addressing this stuff. Finally, superficially, seeing Rogue wearing pigtails bugs me more than it should. And the math puzzle is turrible. more

This title is kind of meh for me tbh. What was going on with Rogue's hair? Why couldn't Jake Gyllenhaal just teleport into the car? Important questions.
