Venom #18

Venom is at the center of Absolute Carnage and there are some major players here that will surely have a part to play in the main story. I love how all the elements of the series to date have come together here in a really satisfying way. Everything is paying off and it's awesome. The scares have so much more impact because we're so invested with these characters. This is what top-notch storytelling looks like in a big shared super hero universe...that happens to be full of alien monsters at the moment. Read Full Review

Donny Cates continues to pilot Venom with twists and turns while sustaining his quest to re-write Venom in his own light all the while paying homage to early Venom such as "Sinner Takes All." All in all this issue was rife with revelation, excitement, and anticipation for whats to come. Read Full Review

Overall, this is a strong chapter in the event of Absolute Carnage that goes beyond just developing the story. From bringing back Sleeper, to developing and teasing interesting avenues with Dylan, this book is not gonna be one to skip when it comes to keeping up with the overall event. Venom #18 is just a solid comic. It does what it needs to do and does it in an entertaining way. There's solid jokes in both dialogue and visuals and together it all creates a comic that feels like part of an event and not at the same time. Read Full Review

Prelude: Venom has been focusing on Dylan and Norman Jr for these tie-ins, so let's see how their story is going during Absolute Carnage. The Good: Sleeper is really cool, I loved a lot about him within the small amount of time we saw of him. The whole family aspect/smaller scale works well here as a nice alternative to the higher stakes and action in the main book. Dylan is also shaping up to be more interesting with some powers of his own. It'll be interesting to see where Cates takes it from here. The Bad: Dylan and Norman Jr's escape plan was a bit... dumb. Yes, they're kids and Maker is... the Maker but I would think that they would do something else rather than create something for everyone to take down next issue. C onclusion: Venom continues to prove itself as a wonderful tie-in to Absolute Carnage as it should as the main supporting book. Really the problems with it are trivial at best. more

Sleeper isn't stupid?? Im shocked this series tries to add ANOTHER new Symbiote but this one actually works. Dylan is actually a fun time another good surprise

The Maker cleans the symbiotes out of the base, then Dylan imitates Eddie by doing "something stupid" to escape him. It's an impressively interesting story with some solid art. Though the scripting is obviously delaying the eventual "Dylan learns the truth" scene, that strategic decision is not nearly as frustrating as I expected.
