Thor #27 not only unites the God of Thunder with Venom but also merges together Al Ewing and Donny Cates's respective writing talents. I hope this isn't the end of Ewing and Cates working together, because they fall into sync in a way few comic creators do. Not a bad start to the Thor & Venom crossover. I haven't been reading Al Ewing's Venom, so I'm not sure how much that would or wouldn't have boosted my experience reading this issue. Nonetheless, this was still fairly enjoyable. Loki being a comic relief wasn't something I particularly expected, but it was one of the main highlights of this book for me. While I'm not as interested in this storyline as the others in this run, this was still well-written and entertaining. Hoping things pick up in the next issue and second half of this crossover.

It's a change, at least. And it's got a fun, breezy style, thanks in no small part to Loki doing full-time comic relief. The art's a little stiff, but well-polished. Dang, but it takes a while for the story to get in gear, though!

Make an obscure villain pop out of a portal, followed by Venom and, boom, we have a story... Or at least, an excuse to crossover with another character Cates writes...
