But Why Tho? - Collier "CJ" Jennings

    Apr 25, 2022

Thor #24celebrates the God of Thunder's 60th anniversary by bringing in a collection of creators who've helped shape his legacy. This issue should serve as a perfect example of how to celebrate a character's anniversary, and the celebration shows no signs of stopping as Thor will battle Hulk in the upcoming Banner of War event that runs through theThorand Hulktitles. AIPT - David Brooke

    Apr 25, 2022

All told, Thor #24 is a good anthology with each tale either paying homage to classics or playing into current and future stories. The main story is smartly written to tie all those together while setting up a new dawn for Thor. In a way, this milestone issue serves as a testament to how Thor may have lasted decades, but he has many more great adventures to take on in the decades to come. Read Full Review

Showcasing decades of talented writers and artists, Thor #24 is a beautiful and broad-ranging retrospective. It's a nostalgic look at where the God of Thunder has been and where Marvel may take him (and us) in the future. Read Full Review

Thor #24 holds something for everyone. Long-time readers will be delighted by the return of iconic talent, while new readers will enjoy immersing themselves in the mythos of Thor. All of the creators have done a wonderful job of making this a memorable anniversary issue but Cates especially has primed us for something special in the upcoming Banner of War crossover with Hulk. Cates story alone is great! Straczynski is a big bonus as well as the other stories being pretty good!

Really enjoyed this. Lot of great stories from past Thor writers and Artist, with the highlight of the issue being Straczynski and Coipel's pages. Still enjoying the main story from Cates and Klein as well. Klein did a really nice looking double page spread of Odin's funeral. The only thing I didn't like in this issue was Jason Aaron's story. When I read the description saying we're getting a tale about Odin that only Aaron could tell, I thought this was a little odd because Jason Aaron seems to hate Odin. But I guess it makes sense, only Aaron could tell this story because no one hates Odin more then him.

For a long read, it was pretty entertaining throughout. The Odin funeral had the emotion. The other parts were pretty good.

It's an anthology, which means it just can't be as important as a regular issue. The anthology strips are extremely well-crafted, though; the Simonson story alone is good enough to justify the whole collection's existence. Like, it's good enough that I think future omnibus editions of Simonson's Thor should include it. And the framing strip, with its final surprise, develops the ongoing story *nearly* as much as a normal issue. Al Ewing's Loki strip is the odd man out in several ways, and objectively I must admit it drags down the overall quality level. But I'm also a huge Ewing stan and it did a great job getting me fired up for his next volume of Defenders.

A fun anthology that allows a bunch of great teams to tell different stories about Thor and other Asgard-related characters. My favorites here have to be the stories from Donny Cates, J. Michael Straczynski, Al Ewing, and Jason Aaron. Walt Simonson and Dan Jurgens' stories were solid as well, but they weren't as great as I would have hoped. Nonetheless, this was an enjoyable book and a good time for Thor fans.

A lot of small filler stories followed by the promise of yet another gimmick pasted onto Mjölnir.
