The Mighty Thor #706

In the end, this final chapter in Janes time as Thor could have been a downer, but Aaron chose to end on a hopeful note. It would have been easy for him to just kill Jane Foster, wrapping up her story in a neat bow and giving the readers the cheap, emotional one-two punch of her death, but he decided on a higher degree of difficulty in his storytelling. Jane does lose her title as the God of Thunder, but her story goes on. Odinson doesnt get the grand moment of reclaiming Mjolnir, but he does still get to reclaim his name. Its obvious there are great things ahead for both characters and hopefully Aaron will be sticking around a long time to tell their stories. Read Full Review

I love where this book leaves us, and it has a fantastic twist, ending, and set up for the new #1 coming shortly. This will give longtime fans their Odinson back, while proudly ending the book without cancelling it or Marvel listening to so many people telling them how the stories should be written. This is a great set up for what is to come and even though I've been all about the thought of having a female Thor, the way it ended has me excited for Odison taking over. Jane has shown throughout her run that she is worthy of this in more ways than one. As a girl, it's hard to live in a male dominated world but "Lady Thor" has made waves. I really must tip my hat to Jason Aaron on writing such an amazing series with Jane Foster Thor as the lead. Aaron really gave her character a strong beginning, middle, and end. Dauterman also deserves a shout out for the amazing art we saw in this and other issues. All around this has been one of my favorite series to follow. I hope Aaron can find a place to return Jane Foster to her glory but the writing and the open door left at the end of the issue promise something special in the future. There will be fragile (incels) out there who will forever hate on Jane Foster as Thor but only through ignoring great writing can someone begin to hate on such a high-quality well-crafted story. I can not say enough that if you are a writer interes ted in creating Superheroes then you owe it to your craft to read the entire Jane foster and Unworthy Thor series from start to finish. It is the best guide and how to on how to build, maintain, and end the story of a great character. See you guys in Thor #1 and Avengers #1 more

It is hard to talk about this issue without getting pretty spoiler heavy. The one thing I can talk about that will not is what they do with the cover. If you did not notice it reflects the first issue of Thor (last series) but this time show the dying Foster surrounded by a heavenly light. On the back cover is the cover to that Thor first issue also bathed in the light fading away. I thought it such a cool idea to signal the end of the hero. This is just some of the great art that accompanies this issue. The inside pages are just as impressive and well done. Now comes the spoiler heavy talk that you might want to avoid. Jane stands at the gates of Valhalla. Odin stands before her finally admitting she is a warrior worthy to enter the gates for her heroism. It would make sense to see her enter the gates and no longer be burdened with the pain in her life. She could finally be happy and go out with the approval of Asgard. She decides to be defiant again however. She surprises Odin once again but refusing to move on. She believes that her time is not yet done. I am sure this will upset people as yet again another death is being undone as Thor and Odin use the remaining power of the Mother Storm to revive her. This resurrection feels for more deserving given than narrative than that of Logan. Her resurrection brings about the end of the Mother Storm and the power source of Mjolnir. It signals that much like Eric Masters she could become a similar Thor-like hero down the line. She also will serve as a reminder for us what the Odinson is striving towards to regain his worth. I will say it would have been great to see Jane enter the gates and put an end to her story, but I trust that this story has not yet ended. more

Initially picked up Thor #1 back during the first Marvel NOW! out of curiosity and never once was let down by this series. Aaron is a masterful story teller and I'm sure there are more than a few haters of Jane Thor that privately now believe this comic title is worth its weight in gold. Don't want to spoil anything at all for readers. This comic is simply a fun time with a lot of heart. It's sad Jane's run as Thor is over because this series was something special. I know for a fact I will revisit these issues years down the road. For all comic lovers who haven't given this series a shot, you truly are missing out. Asgard and the nine realms is a fascinating place to spend some time in.

supremely well done. I was afraid to turn that one page. because I didn't know if it was a tease with a heartbreak to follow or .. what. Original Thor was always one of my favorites. But still, Jane had me. Completely. So much so that I've been sad to see her go. How can I not miss one of my favorites? This was the best possible way to do it.

Jane Foster's story has one last twist left. While from a strict nuts-and-bolts perspective it's slightly gimmicky to hand her an immediate resurrection, the obvious passion and love lavished on the story easily counterbalances any misgivings. Together with the climax in the previous issue, this epilogue dramatically underscores Jane's story with thunder and passion. I really appreciate that unlike a lot of other Legacy titles, the Mighty Thor was allowed to end organically at #706 rather than getting arbitrarily squished or stretched to hit a round number.

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. The question of this entire 4 year run has been, is Thor the actual person holding the hammer or is it something else entirely? Can someone else become Thor? I mean; we’ve seen others hold the Hammer in the past but they were not called “Thor”. Well throughout this run, which started rocky for people who can’t at least be open to change, many readers had a hard time accepting Jane Foster as Thor. To many, Odison was Thor... it was like his Superhero name. Some even argued Jane’s worthiness of Mjolnier as well. After reading this run, I can certainly te ll you she was worthy. I never read any Thor until Jane took up the mantle. Bits and Piece here and there but never a consistent run. Jane got me to read multiple collections of Thor and open my eyes to some of the amazing creations of Asgard, Asgardia, while helping me to become more accepting of change. Because like many, I was skeptical at first. But I was TOTALLY wrong. The issue begins with Jane dead, Mangog thrown into the sun attached to Mjolnier to die, and many Asgardians awestruck by Jane and her sacrifice. Turns out, she’s standing at the gates of Valhalla with a pissed Odin. Now as angry as Odin is, he realizes what Jane did for his people and welcomes her with open arms through the gates of heaven. But for some reason, she can’t go. She feels she has more to do. Meanwhile, the mother Storm that was trapped inside the uru metal of the hammer, which is what gave the hammer and the wielder the power, is released and hovering over Odison and Jane. After cursing the storm, Odison uses it to bring Jane back to life with the help of his father Odin, who can of course go between the realms of the living and the dead. more

We end the story by seeing that Jane is revived, but not cancer free, and Odinson has lost his metal arm, since it melted while harnessing the storm. Jane gives him a pep talk and sends him on his way to retake the mantle of Thor and Odison leaves with his devil pup Thori to go find dwarves to build hammers while Jane focuses on her chemo treatments.

An over arching theme of this past year for Jane, as well as the book, has been her believe in “Gods” or “a God”. Her life has witnessed some terrible loses, her own personal battle with cancer, and she has had many doubts in her believes throughout this series. To see her standing at the doorsteps of heaven even after having all those doubts, gives this reader hope in what’s to come even in my future. We cannot have hope without suffering and pain.

Normally character deaths and resurrections are very cliche and definitely annoying when done so quickly. Although death and resurrection happen quickly here, it is far from cliche. This was another heartwarming issue about Jane and the sacrifice she made to carry on the torch as Thor and slowly giving the mantle back to Odinson. Great story here with some great art.

I've been loving the Death of Mighty Thor, but I can't help but feel that Jane staying alive risks undermining the gravitas of this story arc. She had a beautiful death by sacrificing herself to save Asgard, at long last proving herself worthy in the eyes of stubborn Odin, but by keeping her alive, they took the easy way out and significantly brought down the impact of the overall story. Still, the whole story arc was a 9/10 so a must have trade for fans, but if not for the ending, could have been a 10/10.
