The Mighty Thor #705 cements this series as the longest running quality book that Marvel has released since the first wave of Marvel NOW! titles. I don't think there was ever a time where I felt that I didn't look forward to the next issue or story arc. Whether it was Odinson or Jane Foster the story was powerful, and the emotions weighed heavily. The Mighty Thor #705 is a damn good chapter to transition into the finale of Janes story. It hit me like a Mjolnir in the feels, and I kind of hate the creative team for that, but I also have to thank them for crafting the greatest Thor story ever told (thus far, Ive still got a #706 to read). This book doesn't get enough credit for being the single best, most consistently exciting thing happening in Marvel Comics for at least the past five years and #705 proves exactly why. Overall, Aaran and Dauterman have given us another stellar issue. They do this while also answering one of the biggest questions long time readers have had about the Lady Thor. This appears to be the last time we will see of the Lady Thor, but she will cast a long shadow on the title for years. They also set up the return of the Odinson as the one true Thor in upcoming issues. While divisive at times I felt that the Lady Thor was the best of Marvel's diversity push and it is kind of sad that it appears to be over. Read Full Review

Now that Thor is dead and the truth about her identity can be revealed, I look forward to seeing how the Marvel Universe reacts. Not to mention I know that I will be sobbing like everyone else at saying goodbye. It's terribly sad to see such a strong female character go after all the anger of introducing a "female Thor" to the Marvel Universe. Jane and Thor together were strong not just physically, but mentally in their hardships against supernatural forces and the reality that humanity must face on a daily basis. I can't say exactly what was expected of the issue but it definitely wasn't this. While it's a satisfying conclusion in some ways it also feels like it's one that's playing it safe so that Odinson can return to hold the mantle of Thor. Aaron has weaved an epic Thor run and will continue to do so, so in some ways there was an expectation that despite the build up, some different ending might have surprised us. The day Jason Aaron stops writing Thor will be the saddest day ever. Jane has been my favorite Thor by a country mile and even though I think her death is being written by a master writer. Part of me wonders if her soul is somehow going to be Odinson's new weapon as he returns to lead this book. No matter what this has been masterfully written, drawn, and colored. The struggle and color drips off the page. I keep hoping that somehow Jane will be saved but we have gone to far to turn back now. There will be a lot of fools who celebrate this return to status quo but Jason Aaron for this entire story has put on a clinic on how to write a superhero in the modern age. Pick this up and read this entire story because it is one of the best book s you can buy. more

The moment comes at last and I am hoping that it is not cheapened the way so many other Marvel deaths are. This would be a pretty fantastic way for a hero to go out and be remembered. I was pleasantly surprised by another death happening as well that made some sense based on what we see in solicitations, but did not think of. The biggest thing that made me read the issue a few times was the art. There are some interesting things being done with the colors that I loved. Certain moments drenched in red and inked heavily to make them a bit dark. Some moments given motion that is easy to interpret while others have a steady cam feel. They have a close framed view or motioned so that it is harder to make out. There are some lighter colors in mom ents where the Mangog does not have the upper hand with wide framing to make them easy to see. My favorite thing of course are the sound effects that are made part of the art in fun ways. I said before that I think this is a book that everyone in the team just enjoys being a part of and for me it shows. more

I just read this earlier and I had to collect my thoughts. Every now and then, I come across a comic book issue that is so amazing and yet sad and yet hopeful that I have to write about this. You see, I was one of those guys that did not like it when Jane Foster took up the mantle of Thor. I could not have been more wrong. She out Thored Thor. She outdid the Odinson. This issue showed a lot more than why she should be Thor. She managed to humanize a mythological character in such a way that hasn't been done in comics by either DC or Marvel. Marvel has woven a masterpiece that epitomizes why people are excited about comics in general. I laughed, I cried, I felt remorse, I felt joy but I really felt and wished that Odin had met his demise ins tead of Jane. He was an absolute creep and not worthy of being an all father. All of the issues that I have read of Thor, this one will blow you away. I REALLY didn't think that any female comic would top Spider Woman #50 (another extreme tear jerker and definitely worth a read for those who have not read it yet!) back in the very early 80s but they did. I'm going to come right out and say it: this is THE best send off of a hero in ANY form of a comic book that I have ever seen. Because of the strong content in this comic book, I'll re-read it again but at a later time because right now, I'm sad at the demise of a worthy hero. This was an incredible comic. The saga of Jane Foster as Thor has been a big part of Jason Aaron's epic, sweeping run with the character, and it's hard to imagine it coming to a more bittersweet ending than this, as Thor sacrifices everything to save those she loves. The action in this book is unbelievable--it could be the best work that Russell Dauterman has ever done, and the best fight seen I can remember reading. I don't often shed tears reading a comic book, but I did here, dammit! I've read every issue of Jane's run, and it is sad/happy to see her end so tragically/heroically.

Only deaths - plural - can stop the Mangog. Jane Foster makes them count. This is, in every possible sense, a fitting capstone to the tale of her time with the hammer. I had a few wobbly moments with a few panels of the art, but the majority of the visuals were extremely strong. And the script is just as close to perfect as it could humanly be.

I think this is the 4th perfect 10 that I've ever given on ComicBookRoundup. It is a truly spectacular issue; beautiful, action-packed, tragic, and moving on all fronts: from plot to art, to colour, even lettering. It's a goosebump generator, everything that I wanted it to be and more. Aaron, Dauterman, Wilson and everyone involved have really outdone themselves.

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. I got into DC comics around the time when Marvel started changing its characters around. I’ve read comics since I was little but took a break from them; life happens. Point is: I went to DC because I saw Marvel making changes to some of the characters and going in different directions... like Thor but DC was keeping things as is... for the most part... just new with a twist. A couple months back, I decided to give it a chance. I was hearing some good things. TBH, I was shocked. So I read them and let me say; I’m sorry that it appears like Jan Foster Thor is l eaving. This issue, nay this arc, by the gods... this RUN, was amazing! And the way it ends is spectacular. Jan Foster Thor comes in and starts kicking Mangog’s butt.... however it’s not enough. Odison sees her and knows she basically killed herself turning into Thor this one last time. But they still can’t stop Mangog. Odin, Freyjay, and all of Asgard fly off. Odison refuses but is made to go by his parents and Jane. Jane fights as Asgard gets closer to the sun and the people escape.... nothing is working. So one last ditch effort, she ties up Mangog in the unbreakable chains forged by the dwarves, ties it to the end of mjoliner, and throws the hammer into the sun. By doing so, she no longer has the hammer leaving Mangog trapped in the sun since only the worthy can lift it. Without the hammer Jan changes back to her cancer-ridden form, shares one last kiss with Odison, and dies. This is a loss to a great character; a great heroine, and she will be missed. I’m mainly disappointed in myself for taking too long to get on this train. And now, the train appears to be stopping. not a big fan of this art, and certainly not a fan of the major event here, but... extremely well done. if it had to happen, and I'm sure it did sooner or later, this was the right way to do it.

This was a great book. You can feel the dramatic ending build and is executed wonderfully. What a wonderful arc that has been nothing short of fantastic.

What a beautiful, beautiful comic. It still amazes me how stupid it is for a superhero to die of cancer in the Marvel universe, since people survive any kind of much worse fates, but it actually worked on an emotional level, especially in this issue. Every panel is a true work of art, the bloody fight with the Mangog is extremely intense and the last moments of Jane Foster are poetic and moving.
