Immortal Hulk: The Best Defense #1 is, to no one's surprise, another awesome contribution from Ewing. His Hulk is great on his worst day. This issue does have a couple of weak areas, but they don't detract from the book very much. Di Meo and Sanchez-Almara are a great team, putting together pages that feel somber and full of strife. Another solid outing from Ewing. This manages to fit right in with Immortal Hulk's tone while still telling a larger story. The use of the original Hulk run's panels is actually an extremely clever narrative device. I enjoyed this very much. Makes me excited for this event that really came out of nowhere. Hopefully, the rest lives up to Al Ewing's Hulk, which is no easy task.

What was that? The art is shit and these occasional Incredible Hulk 1-6 frame flashbacks are sooooo weird and unnecessary... Maybe I'm too dumb to get the point here, but the story was really crappy. At least it was concentrated on Banner, which I wanted in the Immortal Hulk. But not in a story like this... He literally was like an unreasonable animal a whole issue long. The interlude was weird too... And the Strange is dead, he's not from Earth-616, so at least this isn't another his death before 2021.
