Narrative dysfunction, while super prominent and somewhat disruptive of the main narrative at hand, isn't enough to take away from Pakndel's skill as a writer. While this issue doesn't hit the highs of those that came before, as piece in a larger puzzle, it keeps up the momentum of both Carnage ReignsandRed Goblinenough to keep either from faltering fully in the face of a crossover. A solid issue here, even with the Carnage Reigns crossover kind of derailing this title a little bit. The focus is more-so on Miles and Cletus, which would be fine if this wasn't Normie's book. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to issues taking the focus off of the main character to highlight someone else, but I'm not really sure why this series is tying-in with the Carnage Reigns crossover to begin with. I'm just hoping Normie's encounters with Cletus and Miles lead to something worth while in the upcoming issues.

Ah yes, the old "no balance whatsoever" approach to balancing an ongoing story and an event tie-in. This is a complete derail for Red Goblin, but it seems pretty essential for Carnage Reigns. Subjectively I think it's a good comic, but I've seen few that have more continuity requirements for complete understanding. Quibble: I love Jan Bazaldua's art, maybe more than I should. But her work here, while good in itself, throws a huge, regrettable curveball into the visual style of the event. And since, as I said, this is pretty essential…uh-oh.

I'm not reading the other titles associated with this story, so I was a bit lost. Especially when this had nothing to do with the previous issue. Somehow Kassady can get into people's minds, control them, and talk through them. Whatever. It all seemed a bit weird. I still enjoy the character, but let's get back to the main story without the crossover. I did like the interaction between Miles and Normie.

If you are not partaking in the crossover event, do not get this issue, it is non-nonsensical and really draws you out of Normie's story. Cool fight scenes and great art but that is all I can say. I feel sorry for the author as he was clearly forced to write this.
