Phoenix #14 finds Jean Grey in a precarious predicament where she must choose between the good of the universe and the living memory of her sister, Sara Grey. While this issue has plenty of action, the real strength of this issue is the emotional weight of Jean trying so desperately not to lose her sister again, even if it means putting the entire universe into jeopardy. Phoenix #14 is the strongest issue of Phoenix in a long time. This troubled book has undergone numerous changes and twists in its production, and those issues have often hindered what was initially the most promising concept among the From the Ashes titles. While this most recent arc hasn't been able to meet the emotional weight such a story deserves, Phoenix #14 ups the stakes in an interesting way and sets the table for a truly cosmic showdown. This series has really started to nosedive. I can't stand the whole Sara angle. Jean is willing to risk the universe for the sake of a phantom she conjured up? It's ridiculous. I'm supposed to be rooting for her? The previous Phoenix hosts showing up was cool, but the whole premise is so dumb I just can't get on board with this story. The art is not any good either. I usually enjoy Phillips' writing but I'm ready for her to go from this book and see what the next writer is going to do.
