You Don't Read Comics - David Harth

    May 25, 2022

New Mutants #25 is yet another stellar issue of one of the X-Men line's standout books. Ayala's writing is never anything short of brilliant; they're one of the best working right now, and this issue gives another example of why. It's action-packed and dripping with character, with events and an ending that makes readers beg for more. The art fits the script wonderfully. Reis is in rare form on this issue, and Duursema and Redmond nail the flashback. This issue is yet another triumph from a book that has been full of them. Read Full Review

The StoryNew Mutants #25 kicks off with Magik, Wolfsbane, and Dani Moonstar having a sparring session thats more Fight Club than Karate Kid, with no strikes being held back.  Despite the brutal fighting, its easy to see the close bond the three characters have.  This is a nice moment between the characters, who have all been around forever, and I could have easily enjoyed it if the whole issue consisted of them just fighting and chatting. But Madelyne Pryor soon appears (in an outfit that makes Red Sonjas costume look like a burqa) and soon all of them are off to Limbo. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Lia Williamson

Rod Reis' art is gorgeous as always, and there are truly few better duos at Marvel Comics than that of Vita Ayala and Rod Reis. Ayala takes Illyana's character in such a new direction that it's the most interesting thing to happen to her since the Krakoa era started. This story is just getting started, and I for one can't wait to see where it goes. Read Full Review

With Ayala adding their best Chris Claremont pastiche narration to the mix, it's a total commitment to the concept that few would dare but is pitch-perfect from this team. Read Full Review

    Comic Watch - Steve Batley

All in all this issue delivered some prime melodrama and characterisation, with enough to keep me guessing as to what will be the outcome and yet still not know who to root for. Read Full Review
