Horror DNA - James Ferguson
Aug 17, 2020Immortal Hulk is pure, unbridled terror. It's full of heart so the scares pack a much bigger punch. We're dealing with massive, cosmic horror through the lens of a super hero previously known primarily for smashing stuff. This is so much more and I love every part of it. The Immortal Hulk is, possibly, the best book Marvel is publishing right now, with the arguable exception of Hickmans X-men. As the Hulk tries to defend himself, giant tears in his eyes, Gamma Flight takes the fights right to him, pinning Ol' Jade Jaws down and leading Crusher Creel to take on a major power upgrade. To spoil it would be to give away the issue's biggest moment, but trust me when I say, it's much more than just a run-of-the-mill comic fight. Weird Science Marvel Comics - Dispatchdcu

To fans that have been reading since the beginning, you'll also agree that some issues are more art heavy and brutal than others leaving some of the plot to be a bit less desirable. The Rick Jones creature in this issue is one of the more rancid creations of this book and that's saying something.

Outstanding stuff. What more can you say about this story from Ewing except it's much better when Bennett is back on art duty and he kills it. He was born to draw this book. Add Jose's inks and Milla colors and it's almost perfect.

Gamma Flight strikes, making Savage Hulk's Worst Day Ever that much worse. The focus is on action and body horror, and the creators deliver in a big way. There's still smart writing on display, but the priority is clearly on evolving the plot -- specifically, the Leader's villainous plot.

This book goes to directions no one can guess. It is surprising and so good at the same time. 36 issues in and a lot has happened. But it all feels like build-up to something massive Ewing has planned. And I can't wait for more. In short, another great issue, buy it.
